Even BIG Luke's staunchest of critics( being a 100% trier, local boy and fan of the club doesn't win you matches) have to give him huge credit for his red ball performances last season. Even allowing for the fact County cricket is now much better suited to the seam bowlers in the game these are almost Hadlee-esque bowling figures given the championship has been reduced to a mere 14 games. An absolutely brilliant performance from him. No one would seriously have thought he could become the spearhead of the attack but full credit to him. Depending on the injury situations would possibly leave him out of certainly the T20 side in order he can be at maximum throttle for the red ball encounters. Hopefully he has say another 2/3 years at his very best. He's unlikely to lose any pace as he is only low 80s anyway but has clearly massively improved his art of seam bowling in recent years. I am not sure the state of the majority of pitches the counties produced when needing results, however, are going to help anyone other than seam bowlers like Fletch but good luck to him he can only bowl on what he is given and take full advantage of the situation
ReplyDeleteGood comments from Stonewall.
ReplyDeleteIts almost been painfull to watch Fletch bowl with max effort over after over on blazing hot summer days. Sometimes the wickets came , sometimes they didn't but Fletch continued to give his all .
Such a popular guy , very sporting and well respected throughout the game. The sort of bloke you would want next to you in the trenches.
As has been said , perhaps better for him to be saved for the red ball encounters and rest him from the frenetic white ball stuff?
Can I quote Cardus/Shakespeare ?
ReplyDeleteWell it is close season, so a bit of "flowery" stuff !
Luke : "The noblest Roman of them all."
Just imagining what Fletch would say to that .......
