The venues for all Glamorgan’s fixtures in the 2022 domestic season have now been confirmed. The fixtures were announced last week but with three of the locations originally listed as TBC.
Our LV= County Championship match against Nottinghamshire on Monday, 11th July and Royal London Cup games against Kent (4th August) and Yorkshire (10th August) will be held at Sophia Gardens.
Head of operations, Dan Cherry, said: “We’re pleased to confirm the full details of our 2022 fixture list, which will see more cricket played in Cardiff at the height of summer across July and August.
“It’s exciting to start the defence of our Royal London Cup title at Sophia Gardens before we return to The Gnoll, Neath for the first time since 1995.
“Unfortunately, this season we will be unable to fulfil our annual fixture in North Wales.
“The operational and financial challenges to host cricket at Colwyn Bay Cricket Club could not be met by either party in 2022.
“We remain committed to playing out-ground cricket and taking the game across Wales and discussions are already in place with our partners in North Wales to begin planning a return next year.”
Conwy County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Events, Cllr Louise Emery said “The events industry have been particularly hard hit as a result of the pandemic and whilst we’re disappointed that the Glamorgan Cricket Festival cannot go ahead in north Wales in 2022, we are ready to begin planning for bringing it back in 2023”.

Northern (Wales) Hopes
The return to Colwyn Bay for the Championship match with Nottinghamshire on July 11 is dependent on whether the county, Conwy Borough Council and the local club can get arrangements in place, and whether Covid-19 security precautions for players have eased by then.
"There's a lot of moving parts with Covid, we're very keen to play cricket in North Wales and Colwyn Bay has been our traditional venue so we're in discussions with the club. If we can play there, we certainly will," Wallace told BBC Sport Wales.
Glamorgan may play two One-Day Cup home games in Newport, subject to further talks and the Hundred schedule at Sophia Gardens.
Thanks for getting this on here so quickly.
ReplyDeleteMy initial reaction is slightly better than 2021 in terms of Championship matches in Summer months, but only a small improvement.
One 50 over cup match at Trent Bridge, v Sussex 2nd August.
Some websites are saying TBC as venue for CC match v Middlesex on 26th June. Club confirm that it is at Trent Bridge.

ReplyDeletePlease bring along a hot flask and your old sheepskin coat . Almost overlaps with Goose Fair.
Of course everyone is a nervous wreck waiting for the really important fixtures -
The 100 Ball times and dates!
As Joe Root said at the weekend - " the 100 Ball Competition is vitally important to the future of cricket in the UK.
Is that what he REALLY thinks or is it something he feels he should say to get the ECB off his back ?
Not sure whether a bit better…..or a bit worse. Guess it depends on your personal situation ? But not keen on so many home t20 games in such a short period and this years RLODC games now at TB but midweek. Dunno what other make of it. Also, early season games…..will they go into a sunday?
ReplyDeleteI am not going to be a member of a county this year, but am going to be a member of a local club near where I live. I may call into a red ball game one Saturday somewhere - it's not my favourite format, but it's less crowded. After so long, I don't feel that comfortable in crowds, even though I always thought all along it should be a matter of personal choice
