  1. If Gary Ballance does play Test cricket for Zimbabwe, is he the first since Boyd Rankin, to play for 2 nations, or has there been another somewhere ?

  2. Not quite the same Rich but did not Jason Gallian play for Australian u19s and Ryan Giggs play similar for England .Keppler Wessells situation also springs to mind but I guess there was a particular issue there with South Africa frozen out of playing official Test Match cricket which seems unbelievable now

    1. Kepler Wessels captained South African after he'd played Test cricket for Australia, in the post-apartheid 1990s but Boyd Rankin was since then. If we dip into ODIs and IT20s then the most recent of those are Tim David in IT20s for Singapore and Australia and David Wiese for South Africa and Namibia in the ODIs and IT20s.

  3. 75 NOT OUT
    A good signing for NOTTS
.A really experienced , proven big hitter with an excellent batting average . Now aged 35 but there is no doubt a lot of firepower to come . Look forward to seeing him bat in the Blast . I missed his appearances in the team of Rockets

  4. 80 NOT OUT
well the Blast games have all been played apart from the later stages .So what is the verdict on Colin Munro ? Worth his expensive Contract or not ?

  5. Doesn’t say much about the lads in the stiffs but, I think we would all agree it’s needed
Although it’s only for 3 games initially,
could Will Young, come back year upon year and develop into “An all time love”
Dr. Peregrine Soper of Wimpole Street

  9. If you have purchased the Notts Annual for 2023 you find the following on page 117: The following players signed new contracts or had their current contracts extended (the year in brackets in when the contract expires) during the past 12 months: Matthew Carter (2023), Ben Duckett (2025), Haseeb Hameed (2024), James Hayes (2024), Brett Hutton (2024), Lyndon James (2026), Sammy King (2023), Tom Loten (2024), Ben Martindale (2023), Matt Montgomery (2025), Steven Mullaney (2024), Dane Paterson (2024), Liam Patterson-White (2026), Toby Pettman (2024), Dane Schadendorf (2024), Fateh Singh (2025), Ben Slater (2025) and Olly Stone (2025).
Existing contracts agreed before 2022 are as follows: Jake Ball (2023), Luke Fletcher (2024), Alex Hales (2023), Calvin Harrison (2023), Tom Moores (2024) and Samit Patel (2023).

"It's pretty clear we need to recruit a top order batsman, especially with Duckett prospering with England"

    . . . . or . . . .

""I wonder what Monty, James, Martindale, Loten, etc, etc, will make of this, we're stifling their development and first team opportunities"

I'll leave it to "the more knowledgeable contingent of Notts supporters" to tell us which it is.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dunno about knowledgeable - but, Martindale doesn’t get runs in the NPL, Monty and Slater should be drinking in the Last chance saloon, if there were other options(the Head Coach clearly doesn’t think there’s too many)
The batting unit needs strengthening and competition for places is needed. You could argue whether they are good enough for Division One. Nobody knows with Loten as he doesn’t get selected
I think Haynes is a good player from the little bit I’ve seen of him.
We possibly are stifling the chances of these lads, but without Duckett the batting at times looks horrific and now one of last seasons top 6 in Lyndon James has morphed into a bowling all rounder batting no8 not no5 in this division.
Guess we had little choice in reality with the way this season’s campaign is shaping up?

  14. Three new players in suggest there might be some going the other way, Notts squad certainly needed a refresh, Complacency had set in for a few of the players and certain other players had found division one attacks a little too hot for their liking, Quite who will still be with us at the start of next season remains to be seen , But the team that takes the field in Notts first match of 2024 will almost certainly look a lot different.

Could one of the changes be a new man in charge ? HH must certainly have certainly impressed the management with his calmness under pressure, Mull will be 37 later this year and could possibly be thinking of a white ball contract to prolong his career, He certainly does not appear to be the force of recent years, He has been a great servant to Notts but age is something which eventually catches up with us all .

Totally agree with the good doctors comments above Duckett was the glue who held our batting together in recent times and without him we look fragile to say the least, Notts needed to make changes and they did, It's just unfortunate that all the players signed came from the same club, A quick glance on google shows others have been quick to realise this and there are many many negative comments, It's a charge we have to accept, Buts its not something other counties are innocent of, Most given the opportunity and funds would do exactly the same.

    We must wish him well

Have the days of starting and finishing your whole career at one Club now gone?
Thinking of players like honest workhorse Fletch- who ends his one club career with a benefit season .

  20. Good news ‘Terry’ McCann signed his first pro-deal
Saw him for the stiffs last season and he looks a very fine prospect indeed, how long he’ll have to wait to get his chance in the first team is the big question at this club however

    ReplyDelete
  21. There were, unfounded, spurious rumours those naughty Foxes 🦊 of The Uptonsteel were trying to knab him

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good that Fateh Singh has also signed a new 2 yr deal. Another tremendous prospect
Keep improving your batting as that’s the best way for you to push for a place in the first team I would say
