Bookings For Tickets on the Gravy Train First Class - By Appointment Only

22/12/2022

The General Committee now needs applicants for those nominated positions that were introduced after goverance changes were blackmailed on democratic memberships in 2019(?). Vote for change or your county will have finances withdrawn or slashed, all because the quango Sport England says so.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club is seeking a suitable individual to join the club’s General Committee as a Nominated Member from March 2023.

The committee leads and oversees the club’s strategic planning, provides stewardship of its assets on behalf of the membership and monitors its financial position and performance against an annually approved budget and financial forecast.

Roles, which are voluntary and non-executive, involve attending monthly board meetings, ad-hoc meetings and sub-committees.

Individuals can apply to be considered for nomination – an application route introduced in 2020 as part of revisions to the governance of the club – by supplying a CV and covering letter to Linda Allen (linda.allen@trentbridge.co.uk) by 31 December 2022.

Candidates will be interviewed by the Nominations Panel in the new year.

The individual appointed will be required to become a member of the club once they are appointed, if that’s not already the case.

Any questions in relation to the process can be submitted to Linda Allen via the contact details above.

After this week's shenanigans, when you thought you could do better than that shower; well you're too late! Applications to join the gravy train have now closed (as of the 31st October).

It will be interesting to see what candidates arise in the New Year following a vetting process.

This is kind of person that they (the club) were looking to get applications from:

We would expect candidates for General Committee to be able to evidence the following skill sets:

1. Motivation for Role

We are looking for non-executive directors with experience of leading others to achieve success. We are a progressive organisation, and we would like to recruit people who are motivated to help us become even better both on and off the field. We are looking for people who can see the big picture. Although it is the executive team who propose strategy to the board, members of our General Committee need to be strategic thinkers with the critical evaluation skills to challenge and contribute to it. They must be able to get to the heart of an issue quickly by asking pertinent questions.

2. Motivation for involvement in cricket

We are looking for people with a high level of passion for, interest in and understanding of the game of cricket at any level from recreational to professional. We are looking for new colleagues who can bring that passion to help us develop both Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, the recreational game across the county, the women and girls’ games and to reach new audiences, especially in under-represented communities.

3. Advocating the values of the Club

Our mission is to give our players, staff, members and supporters great experiences and to create welcoming environments where diverse communities share their passion for cricket. We are looking for exceptional individuals who can help us to continually develop this ambition and act as advocates for our values. We welcome applicants from people with an independent mindset who can also act effectively as part of a team. We need members of our General Committee who can be objective and take a view that is focused on the longer-term success of the organisation.

4. Team work and collaboration

We are looking for individuals who can drive progress with colleagues based on mutual respect, shared values and open communication. We would welcome applications from people with a track record of bringing together disparate groups and uniting decision making, who possess the ability to follow as well as to lead, and who enjoy contributing to the success of others as well as driving success themselves. All members of our General Committee are ambassadors for our organisation, and have a very outward focus. It is essential that they can represent the Club to members, stakeholders, regulators, government departments that may have an interest, and in some cases to the general public and media.

5. Organisational understanding

We are looking for people who deliver effective working relationships and who understand the non-executive role, with experience of balancing the different needs of diverse stakeholders. An understanding of governance is desirable. It is key to appreciating the legal and regulatory framework that the organisation operates within and the responsibilities of Board Members. Knowing what good governance looks like, with a clear appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of the board, will also enable the right candidate to better shape and support the board.

6. Energy and commitment

The role of a General Committee member can be demanding. You will need to have the time to understand our organisation, our market and regulatory environment, competitors and challenges, and keep up-to-date to stay on top of the brief. You will also need the energy and resilience to fulfil the role, especially when the going gets tough so that the board can work effectively through difficult circumstances.

Definition of Gravy Train - A state, position, or job in which one makes an excessive amount of money without expending much or any effort...but the committee, elected by the membership, don't get paid....

Punters on the gravy train rarely want to get off - I wonder why ?
Those not able to clamber aboard feel a trifle miffed.
Remuneration is not important to some . Perks and prestige are preferred.

So then, Dictionary Corner, pls explain to me why so many of the committee go to the away fixture at Lords when we play Middlesex yet only 1 or 2(the proper committee Notts supporters) go to the other away games ?
It must surely be just coincidence on an annual occurrence then on the basis there’s no perks involved.
