Derbyshire 2 Day Friendly Draw

Day 2

Notts appear to be playing with freer shoulders, ticking along at 5 RPO and taking a nominal lead ahead of lunch.
Fifties for Hameed (50) and Montgomery (73*)

At lunch 224/3 2 scalps for Zak Chappell

Two retire outs, Montgomery 73 and James 50 came before the rain at 260/5 from 50.4 overs

Predictable, but short-sighted was bringing in Tom Moores ahead of LPW (setting the trend for season ahead - I hope not). Liam has shown to have a better temprement than the coach's son and has been wasted batting with the tail over the last couple of years IMHO. It's time for the switch, especially if Liam is to catch the eye of the national selectors sooner rather than later.

260/5 was where it ended.

Day 1

Good news from a Notts point of view:

Olly Stone bowls 10 overs in the first session
Lyndon James is back bowling too.

Derbyshire 99/2 in 30 overs (lunch)

After 60 overs

Derbyshire 203/4

Jake Ball sent down 6 overs and Fletch, Brett Hutton and LPW all completed 10 overs each. LJ and Mull completed the 60 rationed for the first two sessions.

In the final session for the day, Notts batting  a little more Bazballesque, before poor light then rain curtailed play for day were 52/1 Zak Chappell removing Ben Slater.

With the county season up and running (off and on) now at Tauton today, after the game at the Merchant Taylor's was abandoned (without any play), it will be Notts' turn to commence at Trent Bridge tomorrow (Thursday) against Derbyshire.

This fixture was originally scheduled to be played at Derby, but owing the weather in the weeks leading up to this fixture, the ground isn't in any fit state. Perhaps their delivery of blue sawdust hasn't arrived yet...

The short notice of the switch of venues is probably the reason why the game will be played behind closed doors and won't be streamed either, but a spectator sport played without spectators does seem a little pointless.

In the spirit of assuming their cricket starved supporters would be still bothered, Notts have released news of their squad for the game that includes a paltry 12 names.

Haseeb Hameed
Ben Slater
Matt Montgomery
Joe Clarke
Lyndon James
Steven Mullaney
Liam Patterson-White
Tom Moores
Brett Hutton
Luke Fletcher
Olly Stone
Jake Ball
