END OF AN ERA

Samit's words

On Sky where they are more blunt, Notts didn't offer him a contract

When does cricket social media etiquette dictate that Derbyshire can announce their new signing?

What a great servant Samit has been to the Club . He stands alongside the likes of Chris Read and Derek Randall . With the way cricket is going I just cannot imagine another player staying with a club for OVER 20 years.
Samit rescued Notts out of dire situations so many times, it became almost the norm. Not the leanest or fleetist of foot player on the field but his record of continuous appearances ( forget how many) may probably never be broken . So its well done Samit for all the years of solid effort and entertainment you have given us for so many years !!

  2. Brilliant service to us down all those years. Probably will never see such longevity again in this new era ????
If being harsh, probably went on about 2 years too long as a shadow of the match winner he used to be
Surprised 😲 going to Derby to play all formats(assuming it’s true) as just cannot see his motivation and not everything is always about the £££££s??????

  3. What can you say about dear old Samit. Been there ,seen it, done it.
One of Notts all time, great talents, who should have played first team cricket for Notts, much earlier than he actually did, the obstacle, If my memory is still in tact, was one Michael Newell , surprise surprise.
Some things at Notts never change.
Good luck to Samit at Derby.
He may help them to win a match.Stranger things have happened .

  4. Thanks Samit. Not being a hypocrite, after I have been critical of him. In recent years he has been in decline, but overall a mighty player for Notts.

  5. Notts certainly seem to have taken a more pragmatic route in considering the make up of their spin bowling attack for next years white ball cricket, whilst Samit could have filled a place the club have evidently decided that in modern day T20 cricket the likes of LPW. Carter and Harrison fill the clubs need better.

Samit it seems will almost certainly carry on playing probably just in T20 and maybe Trent Rockets, He could go to Derbyshire and in a lot of ways it would make sense, i read that some are suggesting he might play 4 day cricket again , Four overs a day though might be the key to any champoinship thoughts, Its difficult to see Samit wanting to play in a four day match with all the bowling and fielding it could entail.

Whatever choice Samit makes he should know he will leave Notts with our heartfelt thanks for all the good times he has helped give us down the years.

    Thank you Samit.

    1. Matt Carter is currently sitting on a one year contract extension that ends in 2023.

  6. Gonna miss him but he's clearly past his best, if he goes to Derbyshire good luck because they're in a mess at the moment, players leaving, the coach is part time and taking on other jobs and the team they have isn't good enough.

  7. Judging by your performances over the last 2 seasons I don’t think there’s that much left in your particular Chieftan or Leopard 🐆, Samit
Cannot believe he thought(more in hope) that Notts would offer him another contract extension.
Samit has been an absolutely brilliant servant and match winning performer for Notts over many, many seasons but his batting is a shadow of what it used to be and in some ways he is now a bit of a luxury player these days I would say
In no way is this any form of criticism. He just isn’t the same match winning all-rounder he was back in 2017 and after 22 years service and now aged 38 you obviously wouldn’t expect him to be the same player. Nobody would be.

    1. I think it hurt him because Notts have been a sentimental soft touch for many years now and he would have expected a series of One Year One Day contracts until the time of his choosing. Compare that to Northants with Josh Cobb for example. Hopefully this is the start of some new realism and we can also say goodbye to other legends before they outstay their welcome.

Has wonderful old performer Samit reached the stage that veteran ex- champion boxers often get to ?
Expecting a return to the glory days when anything was possible ?
I hope Derbyshire supporters get some value from Samit next season . But at
    38/39 you ain’t gonna improve !
