Nottinghamshire Metro Bank Cup Fixtures 2025 Daniel Sams and Farhan Bombshell

04/08

Australia all-rounder Daniel Sams will be available for Notts Outlaws’ opening three matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Sams will remain with Notts for the 50-over fixtures against Essex and Worcestershire at the John Fretwell Centre, Sookholme, along with the trip to the Central Co-op County Ground to face Derbyshire Falcons.

The 32-year-old was ever-present during the Outlaws’ Vitality Blast campaign, finishing as Notts’ leading wicket-taker, while also playing a crucial hand with the bat in victorious run-chases against Bears and Leicestershire Foxes.

“Dan is one of the most experienced players in our squad for this competition – and he understands the club and this group of players really well now after being with us for the Blast,” said Paul Franks, Head Coach of the Outlaws for the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

“I’ve known him for a long time now, and I really like the way he plays his cricket.

“I think he can have a real impact for us and get us off to a good start in the tournament.”

Farhan Ahmed signed by Manchester Orribles for the loathsome competition.

48 hours until the first game at Welbeck and we still don't have clue what the strategy and team might look like.

The other competition that fuels bank balances, has restricted our access to several of our players, even after a mediocre (at best) T20 Blast tournament.

Duckett, Clarke, Tongue and Stone were probably never going to be the Outlaws' frame, but Pennington, Harrison, McCann and Patterson-White's bewildering elevation to best vs best bench warmers has sunk The General's battleship before it's left harbour.

Have we lost Conor McKerr to injury for the whole of this competition? We don't know as Pravda has been tight-lipped, perhaps in the belief that loose lips sink ships!

One torpedo that did strike midships yesterday was Herr Montgomery's sailing off to the Co-op. Matt would would have been an important player for Notts in this competition and his premature exit is somewhat bizarre until you consider that this is now supposed to be a development competition, so why develop players ready for another county to benefit from?

A fresh coach means some fresh ideas hopefully, but resources are stretched and first teamers are limited.

Brett Hutton will have to play at Welbeck, but his workload will need to be balanced with what he's needed for in September.

Bowling resources are severly limited and if the Newell promise of an overseas player materialises, he'd need to be someone that will contribute 10 tidy overs for eight games and that offers something with the bat as well.

Can the basics of List A be relearned, like batting the full allottment of overs for instance? We will probably need the contributions of all the senior first team players to regularly manage that: Hameed, Slater, Haynes and James.

And we do have Tom Moores, the one bright light shining through the smoke from the Blast - so why wasn't he picked out by the franchises?

No word on who this overseas player is, as promised by Mick Newell for the MBC. Might it be Daniel Sams, who's hanging around Trent Bridge for a H*ndred gig and another tournament elsewhere?

Now we're giving players to our rivals - Matt Montgomery goes on loan to Derbyshire Co-op for the MBC, ahead of his move to DCCC next season. Great work Mick, not!

Another torpedo fired at the General's battleship!

15/07

The Metro is fast approaching and with each passing week we seem to lose another player that we would have considered key to the Outlaws Cup competitivity (if that's a word). (Competitiveness, perhaps.)

Freddie McCann and Liam Patterson-White are both seconded to the Birmingham H*ndred franchise. Although Freddie isn't appearing on the squad rosters oddly, but is that because he's an injury replacement? Likewise for Dillon at the R*ckets

We always expected to be without Duckett, Stone, Tongue and Clarke.

The General will have to re-draw his plans and marshall his men accordingly.

Will Newell make a bold declaration of intent and make a last minute overseas signing?

Lincolnshire CCC will again be hosting a one-off showcase game against our professional neighbours, Nottinghamshire CCC. This year’s game will be staged at Cleethorpes Cricket Club's Chichester Road ground. The game serves as a fantastic opportunity for our players to showcase their skills against professional players and for Nottinghamshire, it provides a great opportunity to fine tune their 50 overs skills ahead of the Metro Bank, One Day Competition.
Nottinghamshire are expected to field a strong side as this game represents one of the few opportunities for players to push their case for selection ahead of the One Day campaign, last year’s game featured the likes of former England man Haseeb Hameed and England Lion, Dillon Pennington.
Lincolnshire will be looking for a repeat performance of last year which saw Lincolnshire successfully chase down Nottinghamshire plus 300 first innings total and Tom Keast’s men will be looking for another strong showing against a First Class County.
This years game also sees the return of professional cricket to Chichester Road, home to Cleethorpes CC. Cleethorpes have staged a number of first class and List A games in the past and there are few better grounds in the county to host such an occasion.
We hope you can join us by the seaside for this one off 50 over game.
Play starts at 11am on Monday the 14th July, entry is £5 for adults (payable on entry, cash or card) and free for under 16’s.
Lincolnshire CCC members also gain free entry on the day.
Food and drink will be available to purchase on the day and the ground is situated a short walk from the promenade.

Perhaps this might be the mostly Sunday league, 3 Sundays, 2 Wednesdays a Thursday, a Friday and a Tuesday

  1. Underwhelmed, not being unkind, and not a Notts home match, but isn't Kibworth a village ?

  2. Played for Boots v Cleerhorpes there, run out for 8. Every cloud has silver lining 2 long standing ex members, who now find it difficult to travel to Nottingham from that area, will be able to get to that match.

  3. Freddie is an injury replacement for Harry Moore - DH

  4. In a word Big Dave - NO
We seem to use this competition purely as a development experiment ๐Ÿงช as opposed to going all out to reach the final which is at the real Home ๐Ÿก of cricket ๐Ÿ of course
Hope I am wrong ๐Ÿ˜‘ and our beleaguered DoC proves me wrong

    1. Didn’t realise our DoC had already confirmed we would have an overseas but if anyone can get their head around MM playing for Derby in this years comp, ahead of moving next year, pls could they enlighten me

    2. Provides an opportunity for someone in the Seconds who will be around next season unlike MM. Alternatively it allows the DoC to bring in someone like we did last year with Rob Lord - Kermit.

    3. Pocko would be the sensible signing - if you know, you'll know. Newell doesn't do sensible, only does easy (for him), however.

    4. I’ve no real argument with MM going, players come & go much more thesedays and he struggles to get into our red ball team
But, surely play your strongest team still this year - worry about who is playing in the 50 next season after this year’s competition is over
MM is no world beater - but playing him would have made us stronger so I still just don’t get it - they did it with Joey Evison though so guess we shouldn’t be too surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    5. It would appear that the stategy we eventually found for winning T20 games by the end of the group stages this year doesn't suit Silver Fox's grand vision for the future. Conor McKerr and his agent have been in touch and don't like the spin, spin and more spin tactics, they want to revert back to concede 200+ and we'll chase if we can Plan A. You're right Kevin, we shouldn't be surprised, agents are encouraging player transfers more these days, stating that these poor over worked players want more opportunities to play, so want more not less cricket. There's every possibility that there will be less opportunities built into the schedule next season before Silver Fox etches out his teamsheets for the season.
As for the MBC 2025, we have 17 players available from our existing squad. The General is in charge, so unlike the Silver Fox, he'll know all 17 and they all might get an opportunity to play a game or two. We are now low on spin choices, however - Farhan and ...... Slater. Monty and a Fateh would have been shoe-ins this season. Do we have management or mismanagement at Trent Bridge?

  5. No doubt Paul Franks was delighted as the rest of us, with the news of Peter Moores's new 3 year contract.
Any aspirations the general may or may not have had, for permanently stepping up, have now been well and truly quashed.
I hope Martindale gets another chance in this years competition. I have always seen talent in this lad, and he has been a consistant performerfor the seconds. Let's hope he can develop his bowling, to strengthen his case.

  6. 82 NOT OUT
What a messy end to the last few games of the season . A season in which Notts COULD end up County Championship winners . The TB top team obviously have one eye on future 100 Ball possibilities . The Metro Cup has been downgraded to something of little importance or consequence .
There is bigger fish to fry for quite a few at Notts CCC !?

  7. Odd mix of venues 2 currentTest grounds, one that has staged Trst cricket, a county ground, and 2 smaller venues. Hope we do well this year.

  8. Trent bridge not being used this week so two 50 over games being played in a far flung field somewhere near Shirebrook??

    1. The same arguement each year of that other competition, Anonymous. If there is anyone that actually darkens the doors of Trent Bridge for a R*ckets fixture, perhaps they could enlighten us as to what intricate work has to be done that would be undone by Outlaws playing there. Every Day Counts. Only 6 more Notts Match Days at Trent Bridge left this season.

    2. Not enough pitches on the square I'm afraid - Kermit (educated by the CEO)

      Delete
    3. You shouldn't listen to Miss Piggy Kermit, the H*ndred double jeopardies will only take the 1 central pitch as will the International (if not the same pitch). There's the 2 MBCs later this month (same pitch/hybrid?) The MBC Final, and the 1 Championship game nearly into October. It's not too hot now, the grass is growing. Obviously the overworked, under-pressure ground staff have gone on their summer hols to recuperate ahead of the important R*cket games, in order to put on a show, to make her look good! (if anyone is looking)
