Adams' wing-man 'n' all travel to Uxbridge

Notts have announced an extended squad for their return to first class cricket, at Uxbridge.

Andre Adams and Benny Phillips are added to the T20 hardcore squad.

Graeme White is there (in the squad) for Samit Patel, currently on England duty but only getting a light shift , so could travel south tonight.

Alex Hales is reportedly recovered from his quad strain - it certainly didn't stop him from go-karting yesterday (as littered all over the twittersphere shows).

Dino Retires

Michael Di Venuto today announced his retirement from County Cricket.

Leicestershire Benefit

Leicestershire are having a club benefit for the club. As part of this a number of staff and playing staff past and present are jumping ship out of a plane. Perhaps the money raising element buys the parachutes. Due to jump are Matthew Hoggard, Paul Haywood, Josh and Russell Cobb, Greg Smith and Michael Thornely at Langar (where-else) on Sept 17.

Flops on the field have created testing times for the Foxes with finances not being helped by the rotten weather.

On Wednesday it was announced that Matthew Hoggard has stood-down as the Foxes' One day Captain and that Josh Cobb would be taking over that role for the rest of the season.

Ramnaresh Sarwan has extended his contract with the struggling club until the end of 2014!!

Last ODI

Old Trafford hosted the last of the Aussie-bashing, waste of time Series.
Rain reduced the game to a 32 overs each game.

George Bailey (46*) dragged a suicidal Australian score to 145/7 (2 run outs and a stumping) from their 32 overs.

Fifties from Cook and Bopara saw England home by 7 wickets and a Duckworth fudge!

Series: England win 4-0

And the point of it all was what????

The Australians getting acclimatised to England conditions ready for the future Ashes tour, haven't played in the ODIs - Phil Hughes and Mitchell Starc - might it have been best served (for the Aussies) to have allowed some of the up and coming Australians to play in England as Overseas players for the 2012 season instead of this series?

Yes Notts could have had David Hussey too, but he can't change the weather, can he?

New Deals

Ex-Hampshire's Benny Howells has signed a 2 yearer for Gloucestershire after a trial period as cover for injured Dan Housego.

South African, Johann Myburgh has extended his stay at Durham until the end of this season.

Day One

In shortened first day of the resumption of white cricket at New Road, 2 wickets for the returning Alan Richardson helped hold Durham to 127/4 from the 42 overs possible.

Cuckney areT20 Champions 2012

Cuckney won Nottinghamshire Premier League's Grand Day Out, T20 Final at Trent Bridge yesterday, beating Wollaton by 3 runs.

Heaven

As previously declared, Nottinghamshire Outlaws have a home quarter final against Hampshire Royals to look forward to in three weeks. In the mean time we have some proper cricket coming-up. With Alex Hales taking longer to recover from his strain, could Neil Edwards make a return?

Someone making a return is that most dour of cricketers, when things aren't going well, Steve Harmison. Harmy's return however isn't for Durham but for that most dour of counties, Yorkshire - a match made in heaven(?)!

Yorkshire are currently a couple of senior bowlers light with Mitchell Starc called-in by the Aussies and Sid being injured, hence Harmison's loan deal.

That was the week that wasn't!

  • Mark Ramprakash announces his retirement.
  • Tom Maynard's funeral with as many attendees at Llandaff as there is at an average game at Sofia Gardens. Donations to: Professional Cricketers' Association Benevolent Fund (c/o The Laker Stand, Kia Oval, Kennington, London SE11 5SS
  • ODIs England v Australia abandoned at Edgbaston
  • Scotland v Canada abandoned a 4 dayer at Uddingston without at single ball being bowled.
  • Notts seconds suffer repeated wash-outs.
  • Outlaws win a sub-aquatic 4 over slog, gaining 2 points and losing Alex Hales in the process.
  • Luke Fletcher goes on a diet and not a Snicker diet.
  • Tykes rob Outlaws of top spot of the North group by out playing them at Trent Bridge in the dry.
  • Graeme Swann has time off England to rest an elbow.
  • Derby is underwater and so they cancel a game.
  • Glamorgan bemoan the fact they have had so many rain offs - they've just  lost the games they've played apart from the Duckworth fudge game against the Bears. Outlaws have had almost as many NRs but have won all but the Tyke game that they've played. I agree with the Welsh proposal that if we're going to have T20s then they should be more spread out in the schedule, over the season............................ perhaps as a SUNDAY LEAGUE - Mr Sky wouldn't like that! It appears Surrey have joined-in this plea now.
  • Australia have sent home Mitchell Marsh after a "late night out"  - "Bad call" - from there Centre of Excellence.
  • Samit Patel gets a game for England in the ODI at CLS.

Hussey to the Rescue

but Finn slays the Aussies
Australia were 68/4 when David Hussey went to the crease, when he went back to the pavilion the Convicts were 194/9, Hussey out for 70.

Australia 200/9

David Hussey 70
Michael Clarke 43
Shane Watson 28

Steve Finn 4/37

England had little difficulty, reaching their target with 13 balls to spare.

England 201/2

Ian Bell 69
Jonathan Trott 64*
Ravi Bopara 33*

England won by 8 wickets

Hales to Return

Hales an injury doubt

Alex Hales is suffering with a strained quad so will be under the physio today; if the physio fails in his task, Scott Elstone stands-by ready to fill Hales' boots.

[Twitter suggests Elstone will play but the Notts website is more optimistic that Hales will be fit]

The DoC has now a policy of "consistency" in squad selection and also hopes Samit Patel is available from rain duties with England, if not Graeme White waits for his turn. Watch-out for a surprise in tonight's XI as Mr Newell has said he isn't going to meddle - a definite indicator of change.

Notts seconds had a four day wash out at Kidderminster.

ANSWER

No - Hales didn't play

Notts appeared to have lost their mojo, for the evening only - fingers crossed, Carter being awful, Mullaney dropping a skier - unheard of, Patel very rusty and surprise selection ahead of Elstone, White, looking like he hadn't bowled for weeks, which he hasn't much.

v Lancashire Lightning T20 2012

Sky defies the weather...................................as Outlaws steal victory!

On a night of great farce Notts secured an extremely fortuitous win over Lancashire at a sodden Trent Bridge.
On a night where drizzle was never far away, play got under way at 1845, 35 minutes late. Notts won an important toss with the high probability that Vera would rear her ugly head later on.
