Tons for Lumb and Taylor as Notts push home their Dominance

A day of total domination for Notts as they closed on 443 for four a lead of 272 runs over visiting Sussex.
Notts found batting difficult early on with Lumb dropped in the covers and then in the sixth over of the day, Khan bowling from the Radcliffe Road got one to skid through Wessels (43) defences and leave only one stump standing (94 for two).

Notts Dominate on Day One

Notts suffered no obvious hangover from Wednesday night after dominating the opening day of their championship match against Sussex at Trent Bridge.
On a warm sunny day, visiting skipper Mike Yardy won the toss and elected to bat on a greenish wicket. Notts selected their normal recent championship team on a day that Patel and Taylor got Lions call ups. The batting duo will miss the championship games at Taunton and at home to Durham in mid August. Hales who has had a mediocre season misses out and had a poor day in the field yesterday.
Gurney (Pavilion End) and Phillips (Radcliffe Road) opened up with accurate spells as Sussex crawled to four without loss off the first seven overs.

Wickets for Fletcher and Big Ben Strikes Again

Nottsview has taken great interest in Luke Fletcher's struggles with his "injuries". On the Twittersphere he is frequently bemoaning what his new "fitness regime" entails, not usually a good sign of someone sticking to a "regime". Keep with it Luke, your county needs you!

Nevertheless; in a 2nd XI friendly against Glamorgan at Newport, Fletch took a couple of wickets as the Welsh were dismissed 85 runs short of their 368 target. There were wickets also for Sam Wood, George Bacon and Adam Tillcock (4/55) against a side containing Will Owen and Graham Wagg.

James Taylor has been usurped as England Lions captain by Eoin Morgan, just Samit Patel and Taylor are included in the squad from Notts. The LV= match at Taunton will have the two Notts Lions absent but also absent will be Somerst's two Lions, Compton and Kieswetter.

At an atmospheric Trent Bridge

T20 Quarter final 2012

Hampshire make experience tell

As feared the selection of three uncapped seamers cost Notts a place in Twenty/20 semi-finals. Their combined X-rated bowling figures of 11-0-115-2 do not need any further explanation. If Notts are celebrating a championship triumph in mid-September the amazing omission of Andre Adams will be forgotten, anything less and this night will be remember for all the wrong reasons despite this competition being very much of the Mickey Mouse variety.

Quarter-Final Countdown

According to the Twittersphere, Trent Bridge has sold 8 thousand tickets in advance of tonight's Q/F match with the Hampshire.

If the sun reappears you can add 4,000.

T20-uesday

Three matches in Europe of this variety today with the big one tomorrow, which has an appetiser for Murdoch's Minions too.

For tomorrow's Q/F v Hampshire, Darren Pattinson has been ruled out to be replaced by Jake Ball, who will represent a little known quantity to them apart from the CB40 last week and what Billy the mole Shafayat can tell them.

The Outlaws team: Michael Lumb, Alex Hales, Riki Wessels, James Taylor, Adam Voges (C), Samit Patel, Chris Read, Steven Mullaney, Jake Ball, Harry Gurney, Andy Carter

The team has been announced very early, so expect a change before 7.10 pm tomorrow, Mick has "previous".

Berring-Ton crushes Bangladesh

In today first game of T20, over in the Netherlands it was Scotland v Bangladesh
Scotland fresh from their whipping by Notts opened up batting first in The Hague.

Scotland 162/7 (losing 4 wickets in the last 2 overs)

Richie Berrington 100

Kyle Coetzer 14

Bangladesh 128

Shakhib Al Hasan 31
Tamim Iqbal 25

Majid Haq 3/27
Josh Davey 3/23

Scotland won by 34 runs

In the second match, Somerset batted first against the Eagles of Essex at Taunton.

Craig Kieswetter falling on the first ball to an Alastair Cook catch off Tim Phillips' bowling and his usual fellow opener but today's no.3 Marcus Trescothick went for 19.

Somerset 175/6

James Hildreth 58
Jos Buttler 33
Richard Levi 20

Eagles in reply lost their first wicket early 9/1, which quickly became 9/2 as Ravi Bopara went for a 2 ball duck. At half-way house, Essex had lost Alastair Cook for 28, 55/5. With 5 overs to go and with James Foster out for 26, Essex 105/7. Essex's hopes in the hands of Ryan ten Doeschate, over#18 went for 20, bowled by Alfonso Thomas, 29 required from the last two overs.

Essex148

Ryan ten Doeschate 47
Alastair Cook 28
James Foster 26

Lewis Gregory 4/39

Somerset won by 27 runs

Sussex Sharks were put into bat at Hove in the third game against Gloucestershire Gladiators who feature Ian Saxelby, the would-be Notts fans favourite, in a different life perhaps.

In the first over, Saxelby removes Chris Nash but once Matt Prior was to the crease the momentum swung to Sussex's advantage. After Prior's demise, Murray Goodwin and Scott Styris took the baton in tandem homing-in on 200. Over 18 went for 38 runs (including 2 no balls and a dot ball), James Fuller the unfortunate bowler, Scott Styris the demolishing batter, 200 was surpassed with ease.

Sussex 230/4

Scott Styris 100* (37 balls 9 sixes 5 fours)
Matt Prior 60 (38 balls 3 sixes 5 fours)
Murray Goodwin 55 (41 balls 7 fours)

The young Gladiators had a monumental edifice to surmount; but with some spirited hitting from Dan Housego they were still in hunt, mathematically, at half way.

With 3 overs to go Gloucs were 174/4 needing 19 per over which proved too much.

Gloucestershire 191/8

Dan Housego 47 (32 balls 2 sixes 6 fours)
Alex Gidman 44 (22 balls 3 sixes 2 fours)
Hamish Marshall 42 (29 balls 1 six 3 fours)

Sussex won by 39 runs

Meanwhile in Newport, Gwent

Notts 2nds started their 3 day game against Glamorgan.

In an audition for Alex Hales' spot, subject to a Lions call-up, Turner and Edwards opened up with a 112 partnership. Notts declared on 351/9 and the Welsh were 58/0 at stumps.

Monday blues

Only managed 311 not out
Sunny day but no cricket scheduled, ironic! Just England climbing a mountain to save a Test match; they've got the wrong South Africans on this occasion, it would seem.

  • Essex have been allowed to select Ravi Bopara and Alastair Cook for their Q/F match against Somerset.
  • Pattinson is to have a fitness test tomorrow.
  • What chances a level playing field?
  • England lose Bopara early on Day 5, the mountain gets higher and steeper to climb!
  • England still trail by 75 runs with just 5 wickets left at lunch
  • Not even reaching tea, England lost to South Africa by an innings and 12 runs.
  • Samit Patel has called on Notts to be to clinical on Wednesday - "come-on Samit, who is it that's been dropping the catches?" Two in as many days over the weekend.
  • Former Notts bits and pieces player, Ian Pont, claims he has only received half of his fee for the coaching role that took in the BPL, according to ESPNcricinfo.
