Wickets for Fletcher and Big Ben Strikes Again

Nottsview has taken great interest in Luke Fletcher's struggles with his "injuries". On the Twittersphere he is frequently bemoaning what his new "fitness regime" entails, not usually a good sign of someone sticking to a "regime". Keep with it Luke, your county needs you!

Nevertheless; in a 2nd XI friendly against Glamorgan at Newport, Fletch took a couple of wickets as the Welsh were dismissed 85 runs short of their 368 target. There were wickets also for Sam Wood, George Bacon and Adam Tillcock (4/55) against a side containing Will Owen and Graham Wagg.

James Taylor has been usurped as England Lions captain by Eoin Morgan, just Samit Patel and Taylor are included in the squad from Notts. The LV= match at Taunton will have the two Notts Lions absent but also absent will be Somerst's two Lions, Compton and Kieswetter.

Morning Report

Late announcement of the teams via a Twitter-feed:Wessels, Hales, Lumb, Patel, Taylor, Voges, Read, Phillips, Adams, Carter, Gurney

Sussex team: Nash, Joyce, Wells, Goodwin, Yardy, Wright, Brown, Khan, Magoffin, Anyon, Panesar

Let's hope Murray Goodwin has forgotten to bring his bats; he likes batting at Trent Bridge - alternatively, he is due a failure.

Sussex won the toss and not surprisingly batted on a bright, dry, warm, sunny first morning.

The first wicket fell in the first hour after a tentative start by Nash and Joyce; it coincided with the first bowling change unsurprisingly, the Anglo-Irish International Ed Joyce falling LBW to the usual suspect, Andre Adams. Fellow opener Chris Nash soon followed, driving to Ben Phillips but edging a catch behind the wicket, bringing Murray Goodwin to join Luke Wells at the wicket, 26/2. That was as good as it got for Notts as Sussex lunched at 69/2.

League favourites and leaders, Warwickshire, were 109/0 at lunch against Surrey. At the other end of Division 1, Durham lost morning wickets against Middlesex, 61/6.

Evening Summary

With Warwickshire heading towards 4 or 5 batting bonus points against Surrey (322/6) , it was important that Notts claimed maximum bowling points inside a day; this is what they've achieved, plus knocking off half of runs Sussex got for the loss of near minimal wickets.

Notts bounce back from t20 defeat by enjoying a good bowling and batting display on day 1 -

Sussex First Innings 171

Luke Wells 54
Ben Brown 37
Murray Goodwin 19

Andy Carter 3/41 (the tailenders)

Notts First Innings 88/1

Riki Wessels 38*
Michael Lumb 28*

Having just read the BBC report for this game, it would appear Alex Hales hasn't taken the Lions exclusion well, dropping Wells twice in the slips and out cheaply. Not exactly what D of C meant by pulling his finger out! I look forward to our eye witness account, later. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/18957532

Durham however, look doomed; bowled out at home for 102 and then close day 2 in arrears, Middlesex 144/7
