Keedy appointment

Nottinghamshire have appointed former Surrey, Lancashire and Yorkshire spinner Gary Keedy as Assistant Physiotherapist.
Keedy will be registered to play for Nottinghamshire although his primary purpose will be to provide physiotherapy for the Second Eleven and Academy teams.
He will also serve as spin-bowling coach as Director of Cricket Mick Newell looks to provide specialist support for Sam Wood, Adam Tilcock and Samit Patel.
"We're pleased to have agreed a deal with Gary who has a wealth of experience and is uniquely qualified to serve us at this stage of his career," said Newell.
"He was keen to take the next step towards a full-time career in physiotherapy but still feels that he can contribute to our coaching team and provide an option for those games away from Trent Bridge where we may opt to play two spinners."
Keedy has taken 678 wickets in 223 first class matches since making his debut in 1994. He began his career at Yorkshire but is best known for his achievements at Lancashire where he lifted the LV= County Championship trophy in 2011, as well as twice achieving promotion from Division Two.
“I have had a great year at Surrey and would like to thank everyone at the club for their warm welcome and fantastic support," said Keedy.
"However, the chance to develop my career in Physiotherapy at Nottinghamshire was too good an opportunity to turn down at this stage and I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead next year."

The future's bright............................................

Statement

Mansfield Hosiery Mills Appeal Upheld

Posted by Ian Smith on 29/11/2013 17:42

Mansfield Hosiery Mills Appeal
At the MHMCC Hearing on Thursday 28 November, the Northamptonshire Panel upheld the appeal because of a technical matter relating to the original hearing. As such MHMCC  are reinstated for the 2014 season, and Farnsfield, by virtue of having finished 11th in the league, are relegated.
A further statement on this matter will be made following the Management Committee meeting to be held on Monday 2 December. At that meeting the league fixtures will also be approved and hopefully distributed by no later than Wednesday 4 December.

Reg Simpson: Former England opener dies, aged 93

Former England opening batsman Reg Simpson has died at the age of 93.
He led England to their first post-War victory in Australia with an unbeaten 156 in the fifth Ashes Test in 1951.
It was the finest knock of the Nottinghamshire-born cricketer's 27-Test career.

Talk to Franks

Paul Franks' Chad interview

As thousands of delighted fans gathered on the outfield to chant ‘Nottingham, Nottingham’, a contented Paul Franks watched on from the Lord’s balcony with a satisfied smile.
No-one was more proud than the long-serving, homegrown all-rounder to see Nottinghamshire CCC end their long wait for a one-day knock-out trophy win at the home of cricket.
For 24 long years, the green and golds had endeavoured to repeat their 1989 Benson and Hedges final victory over Essex, secured by Eddie Hemmings’ dramatic last-ball boundary.
But that toil - including plenty of hard yards from Franks himself - had been in vain. There were near misses, yes, but, as they say, no cigar.
All that changed, however, in September when Nottinghamshire crowned a brilliant 40-over season by clinching the Yorkshire Bank 40 Trophy with an emphatic 87-run triumph over Glamorgan.

Cricket Australia Invitational XI v England XI at Sydney

I went to the SCG for Day 3 of this pre-Test game. Play commenced promptly at 10:30am on a cloudy morning . Overnight England were 302/5 with Root on 26 not out and Bairstow 11 not out. The first rain stoppage occurred after 15 minutes. Play resumed after half an hour with the Yorkshire duo scoring freely and Root in particular playing some beautifully timed stokes for boundaries. Unfortunately he was struck on the fingers by a rising delivery from Lalor. He had lengthy treatment on the field before resuming . At 351/5 he hit a lovely 4 for an impressive 50 and the players dashed off the field with the score on 356/5.

NSW v. Tasmania Sheffield Shield Day 3 of 4 - Blacktown Olympic Park Oval, Western Sydney

Another postcard from Andy in NSW;-

To-day I travelled by train from Gosford to the above venue. Originally I had thought that the game was to be played at SCG but the NSW cricket authorities are keen to ensure that matches are not just played at their HQ.The location was totally redeveloped for the 2000 Olympic Games .

We went to the Ryobi Cup Final earlier to-day at the lovely North Sydney Oval. Queensland defeated NSW in a high scoring game. The maroons knocked off the required 317 losing 5 wickets. Chris Lynn hoisted a 6 with 5 balls remaining in the match to win a hard fought encounter.

Taylor made appointment

James Taylor has been announced today as the Notts Outlaws Captain for 2014 as part of his new contract extension to 2016.

The Outlaws' captain role will cover both List A and T20 formats - Titch and Ready would appear to be chuffed with the appointment from the articles on the Notts website.
