Mixed News for England (and Notts) pair

Samit Patel has been awarded an England increment contract having featured in 10 limited overs matches for England in a defined period.

Patel doesn't hold a central contract but so called non-contracted players can earn an England increment contract via a points system. Five points are awarded for a Test appearance and two for a T20 or ODI appearance, with an increment contract being awarded automatically once the player reaches 20 points during the 12-month contract period.

ECB National Selector, Geoff Miller, said: “This award reflects the contribution Samit has made to our T20 and One-Day international teams this winter and we congratulate him on his achievement.”

Darren Pattinson is likely to miss at least 2 months of the coming season with a stress fracture of his back.

Patto was a key performer for Notts, particularly in the one day formats - might this influence Newell's decision of overseas players he eventually settles with?

News flash

Form player, Alistair Cook broke the news that he would be remaining with the England squad for the T20 series against Pakistan.
