Notts take 8

As Warwickshire drop 16

After two frustrating days of inactivity; day four of this game turned out to be a battle for bonus points.
Notts resumed on 178 for five on a sunny morning. Voges and Read added a further 51 runs and took their fifth wicket stand to 145 when Voges fell leg before to Jon Lewis for 59. Phillips lifted Linley for six as both Read and himself put bat to ball as Notts reached their third batting point. Read two short of a deserved ton received an unplayable ball from Meaker, the pick of the visitors attack and departed bowled. His innings of 98 included 16 fours as Notts were now 304 for seven. Adams in typical style got to 14 before holing out caught at long on by Roy off Meaker. Three balls later Meaker picked his fifth wicket as a mistimed shot from Ben Phillips (47) saw him depart caught by Rory Burns at square leg. Gurney was the last man to fall Roy taking another catch at long on; Kartik this time being the bowler, Notts all out for 328. Meaker’s final figures were 20-2-78-5.

With 57 overs remaining, Surrey got off a circumspect start on the slow wicket as the game became somewhat somnolent.  Left handed pair Ansari and Burns added 85 runs when in the 29th over, Carter got through Ansari’s defences as the Cambridge student departed for 31. Roy injected some much needed impetus as he raced to 50 in just 37 balls as Patel in particular took heavy punishment. Adams returned from the Pavilion End and took a wicket with his first ball of his new spell as Burns was yorked and lost his off stump as he departed for 79. Two balls later de Bruyn got a duck caught behind by Wessels who had taken over the gloves from the indisposed Read, 167 for three.  Davies (3) became Adams third victim as he fell to sharp catch by Voges at second slip, 177 for four. Roy switched hit Patel into Fox Road stand off successive balls but off the next ball was stumped by a country mile by deputy keeper Wessels. Roy’s 83 came off just 50 balls and contained eight fours and five sixes. Spriegel (17) fell in the next over bowled Adams, Surrey now 215 for six. Meaker had a few fortunate moments against Adams but with Chris Jordan saw Surrey to their second batting point with two balls unused as Surrey closed on 252 for six; Notts getting eight points out of the game. Adams reached 50 championship wickets with 15-2-51-4.
With Warwickshire surprisingly slipping to one wicket defeat at Taunton, the Bears still lead the table by a single point from the Green And Gold but having played one less game.

The less said about the Test on Day 3, the better. England didn't get a chance, England didn't get a break, Amla is excellent.
