Expectant father, Michael Lumb is a doubt for the first two days of the "only a big win will do" match at the Oval, before his England duty - Neil Edwards is sitting in prime position to pick-up the tab at the "Last Chance Saloon" yet again from day one, should the baby's head need wetting or at last orders day 3, when Lumb is due to take-up his stint with England T20.
With Alex Hales departing at the close of day 2 too; Paul Franks, Andy Carter and Steven Mullaney are all possible replacements.
Astonishingly Sam Wood is expected to be in the starting eleven once that is finalised.
"Sam Wood is a genuine all-rounder and his off-spin will be valuable on the pitch we expect Surrey to prepare," said the D of C.
The travelling members of the squad:
Alex Hales, Riki Wessels, Michael Lumb, James Taylor, Adam Voges, Chris Read (C), Sam Wood, Graeme White, Luke Fletcher, Ben Phillips, Harry Gurney, Neil Edwards, Andy Carter, Paul Franks, Steven Mullaney
Hosting Surrey have also named a fourteen man squad which includes "You know who"
Gareth Batty (capt) Rory Burns Zafar Ansari Arun Harinath Kevin Pietersen Zander de Bruyn Jason Roy Steven Davies Gary Wilson Stuart Meaker Murali Kartik Jon Lewis Chris Jordan Tim Linley
