v Surrey first innings LV= 2012 at the Oval

Notts in the hunt?

Lumb junior must be imminent as Michael was not in the starting eleven, the eleven did include Sam Wood and Steven Mullaney however but no Neil Edwards, as yet.

Surrey won the toss on a bright morning and even with the early September start, chose to bat, showing that conditions were perfect for batting but informed knowledge suggests the wicket is likely to take spin particularly in the fourth innings.

Surrey progressed at just over 2 runs per over by lunch for the loss of four wickets against the newish ball (3 for Harry Gurney).

In the middle session, Surrey lost just one wicket as the scoring rate increased, but post tea  the Green and Gold removed a further 4 of the hosts once the second new ball was taken.

Luke Fletcher put in a commendable shift of 20 - 10 - 33 - 1

At stumps Surrey First Innings 242/9

Zander de Bruyn 71
Gary Wilson 68

Ben Phillips 3/44
Harry Gurney 3/47

The biggest cheer of the day, from the Notts cohort, wicket number 4 (KP)

Elsewhere, Worcestershire effectively surrendered their Division One status today.
Choosing to bat the Pears were all out for 60 then in reply Warwickshire closed 215/2.
Fivefers for both and only used Bear bowlers, Wright and Barker and an unbeaten ton for Chopra.
