v Surrey D4 LVC 2012 at the Oval

What Wood Notts do without Chris Read?

Surrey's last pair, extended their innings score to 269 first thing this morning.

A familiar stuttering start by Notts in their first innings, Adam Voges again falling cheaply. At 60/5, Skipper Read was joined by Sam Wood who hadn't faced a senior ball in his only other  game but Wood showed patience and maturity beyond his years and survived to tea. Having put on 92 valuable runs with Readie, Wood fell to the experienced Kartik, after tea for 45. White and Phillips lasted a combined hour before Luke Fletcher joined the gutsy Read at 186/8. The partnership brought-up the 200 together before the second new ball was taken.
Fletch succumbed in the 81st over and Gurney in 83rd, in between  Read adopted a long handle approach, extending the score to 227. Chris Read 85 not out.

Matthew Spriegel

Surrey's one day specialist all rounder Matt Spriegel has signed a two year contract at Northamptonshire, he just might do well there. I am surprised Notts weren't interested in him, he fits the profile that the D of C has for new signings - he has done well against Notts.
