Saturday

Yorkshire suffered another defeat in the CLT20 this time at the paws of Lions. Yorkshire had been restricted to a meagre 131/7 but then fought hard to strangle the Lions but again Jean Symes batted with assurity and got Highveld side across the winning line, winning by 5 wickets with 4 balls to spare.

Thursday

2014 will see some significant changes to the structure of the make-up of County Cricket fixtures.

Following the resoundingly slatered Populus survey, which asked  ridiculous either / or questions, the ECB have decided the following:

  • The declining (in spectator numbers nationally) T20 competition will be expanded to 14 group matches "mainly starting on Fridays" - until Sky have their say no doubt.

  • The CB40 has been scrapped to be replaced by the CB50; I can't imagine anyone having a preference for that competition, it was dead on it's feet when it was downsized before in 2009 and the ECB did state that the survey canvassed 25 000 views and there was no difference in opinion between the two competitions - I can't remember being asked that question, but they know best...................................

  • One sensible change is to have Championship matches starting on a Sunday rather than ending on Saturday, or before .
There will be 14 t20 group games from 2014. I for one am happy with the increase, what does everyone else think?
No compelling preference from spectators for 40 over cricket rather than 50 over cricket and therefore...
t20 played on Friday's throughout the season - going to play havoc with overseas players coming and going all the time I guess!
...........................................................................................................................................................

  • KP has been accepted back into the England fold.

BOOOOOOOOM!! The happiest days of my career have been playing cricket for ENG.. Long may that continue! Thanks everyone for your kind words.

  • Sydney Sixes beat Lions and the other game (involving Yorkshire) was a NR.

Wednesday

Titans out play Aces With an embarrassment of riches at his disposal, Victoria coach, Greg Shipperd, has called for Sheffield Shield games to be 12 a side, 11 batting and 11 fielding in order to give more players a game.

One draw-back of this would be losing SS matches' first class status.

Auckland suffered a heavy defeat by 59 runs at the hands of the Titans. Andre Adams was the last man out for a 17 ball 30 which included 2 maximums, one of which went for 99 metres.

Today's second game was a NR.

Tuesday

In a match that saw former team-mates in opposition - Mitchell Starc being a Tyke only last July and Michael Lumb who lost his Yorkshire credentials a bit longer ago ; Andrew Gale won the toss and not surprisingly batted first. Carnegie suffered regular wicket losses and closed 96/9 Mitchell Starc 3/22
Sydney Sixes raced to their target for the loss of 2 wickets inside 9 overs, Michael Lumb 43 not out.

In the day's second match, Highveld Lions again chased-down a target (set by Chennai SK), this time Scotland's Jean Symes saw them home with 39 not out.

Monday

Paul Strang's Auckland easily beat Kolkata by 7 wickets with 14 balls to spare. MotM was Azhar Mahmood again 3/16 and 51*. Frankly KKR looked poor.

Andre Adams suffered at the hands of KKR's only performer, Brendon McCullum (40), with 4-0-31-0.

Neil McKenzie (68*) and Quinton de Kock (51*) chased down a 8 wicket win against Mumbai Indians for the Lions at the New Wanderers, Jo'burg.

No cramp today(?) against an experienced opposition who still couldn't cope with his shenanigans.
