Lumb Dog Millionaire

Sunday
Michael Lumb cashed-in with an awesome display for the Sydney Sixers in the CLT20 final against the hometown Highveld Lions.

Put into bat on a flat dry track that took some early turn, the Lions struggled to 9/4 against the spin of McCullum and O'Keefe and the pace of Josh Hazlewood. The flying "Scotsman", Jean Symes dragged some respectability back for the Lions with 51 but a target of 122 was well short of par............... and so it proved as Sixers raced to their winning line without losing a wicket. Michael Lumb's 82* secured him man of the match and the golden bat award for scoring the most tournament runs.

A David Hussey 100 and a Darren Pattinson 4/46 saw Victoria to victory over Tasmania by 25 runs in a Ryobi One Day Game at the MCG.

Happy Birthday to former Notts skipper, Mike Smedley.

CB40 rumour mill - Netherlands will play their 'home' matches in 2013 in the UK - anyone able to confirm?

Friday

In a thrilling see-saw semi final, Sydney Sixes ran a bye off the last ball to win a 2 wicket victory over the Titans. Michael Lumb took a fine catch in the deep to rid Kolpak Jacques Rudolph and then top scored for the Sixes (19 ball 33).

Thursday

The first CLt20 semi saw home-side Lions beat the KP Daredevils by 22 runs - a daan shame!

Two strong state sides, Tasmania and Victoria are 3 days into a Sheffield Shield match dominated by a Ricky Ponting 162. David Hussey managed 28 in his first innings.

Pybus Quits

Richard Pybus has quit the job of Bangladesh coach only 5 months into the post citing political interference as one of his reasons for leaving.

Earlier this year Notts' very own Mick Newell was tipped for the Bangladesh job but it was understood at the time that he didn't want to be away from his young children for the long periods of time that an international appointment would necessitate.

Has anything changed since last time? Notts/Newell failed to win any silverware 2012 despite having a heavy hitting squad on paper................................................... Notts wouldn't stand in the way of any international ambitions that Newell might be harbouring and might welcome a change, after all  the 2011 flying start was achieved with Wayne Noon at the helm whilst Mick Newell had a spell in charge of England Lions. Wayne Noon became more noticeable around the first eleven during 2012, before the time Pybus accepted the Bangladesh job.

With a bit of luck, Mick Newell is running-up a massive international phone bill at the moment in his quest to sign Outlaws a significant overseas star or two for the T20 and the CB40 ............ and with the fixtures out next month, what will the limitations the LV= availability be for any potential imports that may be involved elsewhere during April and May?

Tuesday

Andre Adams headed home ahead of his defeated teammates with an abdominal strain.

When is ok to chuck?

When certain nations change the rules to suit their own ends! Pakistan and Sri Lanka, stand-up and be counted!

George Dobell or ECB who's right?

Monday

England centrally contracted Graeme Swann has been granted a benefit in 2013 by the Nottinghamshire committee. I'm sure Notts fans will be in the main positive towards this reward following Ryan Sidebottom's benefit of 2009. Of course, Swanny has already extended his contract at TB until 2014. A just reward?

Well deserved benefit for  - we'll make sure keeps us advised of events at Prem Towers!
Swann: "Next year will be a busy one with Ashes defence and Champ Trophy and am honoured that Notts have awarded me a benefit season"
Congratulations to Nottinghamshire and England spinner who has been awarded a benefit season in 2013.

Yorkshire lost again in the CLT20, this time to Chennai SK by 4 wickets with an over to spare. Gary Ballance the Zimbabwean tipped as an England prospect did score the games highest score of 58.

Michael Lumb out for 28 for the Sixers - now up to 29th on the world list of highest t20 run-scorers

One of Dave's little known facts there!

Sixers duly qualified for the semi finals with their 4th win out of 4, this time a 12 run win over Mumbai.
