Samit bowls Mumbai over.

Monday
6/54 (3 wickets each for Monty and Samit) today saw England dismiss Mumbai A during the first session of the last day; bringing Compton and Root to the crease before lunch.

Lunch, with England 13 without loss, all of the runs to Root including boundaries to fine leg and third man.

Nick Compton probably batted himself into the test side with an unbeaten painstaking 64 as the match ended in the expected draw.

Sunday

Onions goes, goodness knows how. Given out by umpire anyway. Stomps off, and England declare. Mumbai now encounter pissed off bowler.

Onions gone (tho wasnt happy!) and Eng declare on 345/9. Ball doing loads so Onions and Anderson should have fun out there
The England slip cordon is the lesser-spotted trio of Trott (first), Patel (second), Morgan (third). They won't be there in the Tests...
England get first wicket as Thakkur given out ct behind off Onions. As with the bowler earlier,he didnt want to go though.

In the first over after lunch Joe Root of all people persuades Shikar Dhawan to steer an off-break straight to Anderson at slip!

Anderson has Yadav caught behind in the last over of the day as Mumbai A close on 232 for 4. Well played Hiken Shah: 84 not out...

Saturday

In a second warm-up match; England batted first against a Mumbai A and again "the people's choice" Nick Compton failed, out for 1. Joe Root fared slightly better than his fellow opening contender, making 28 but it was Eoin Morgan and Jonny Bairstow that added some meat to the innings with a stand of 156. Morgan went for 76 to be replaced by Samit Patel who with Bairstow added 107 in quick-time before the Yorkshireman fell for 118. The seventh wicket pair was a Notts affair Patel / Captain Broad, 329/6 latest.

Samit goes to an excellent 50 from 60 balls with his seventh four.

As  rightly points out, the bowling's not top notch. Mumbai A like County 2nd XI, but he scored when some others haven't
Close of play with England 338 for 6. Patel not out 59 with the best batting of the day.

Thursday

Samit Patel grabbed his first England ton (104) as the tourist took a 57 run lead over India A.

Patel goes, caught in the covers by Murali Vijay off that man Yuvraj, for 104: 368-7. But he's made his point...

Lunch Eng 396/8 lead of 27 - Bres 21* Anderson 1*

Yuvraj has taken five wickets, but don't be fooled into thinking this fits into the old England-rubbish-against-spin template..

Rahane edges Patel to slip, where Anderson takes a juggling catch. Rahane out for 53, India A 117-4

So, a draw at the Brabourne: India A 124-4 in the end, a lead of 67. England will be reasonably pleased, bar the injury to Finn...

Surrey have signed Protea skipper Graeme Smith on a 3 year deal as captain.

Surrey sign Graeme Smith on three-year contract from next summer. South African batsman will also captain side.

Wednesday

Scans show no serious injury to Finn, so he'll be monitored but will play no further part in this game
The last time Nick Compton's (0 in 3 balls) grandfather Denis played at Brabourne Stadium was in Jan 1946. He made 91 & 124 for Europeans
Samit Patel's driving beautifully. England are 177-4 (Cook 65, Patel 28)
Tea and Cook and Patel have got their heads down after wkts of Trott, KP, Bell. Eng 186/4 Cook 67, Patel 31 (dropped on 29 by keeper)

Eng close on 286/4, Cook 112* Patel 82*. Very good batting from those two. Patel sums up Cook in 2 words: "Determination. Honest"

Thrilled for Samit to start the tour so well. 82 not out will give him great confidence that he can play a full role with bat and ball.

Go on Samit!!!

Century on debut for Notts born player

Nottingham born, Peter Burgoyne (Derbyshire squad), made his first class debut yesterday, for Southern Rocks against Mashonaland Eagles in Harare, Zimbabwe. Peter has been playing for Rocks since the beginning of October in one day games. Latest score (PB) 25* out of 309/4 just into Wednesday's play.

Today Burgoyne extended his score to a century on debut finishing on 102 not out
Tuesday

Samit Patel has been included in England's warm-up game, starting today in Mumbai, against India A.

At tea the Indians are 224/6; 2 wickets for Swann and one for Patel, Yuvraj Singh made 59 (7 fours and 4 sixes) and appears well down the road to recovery.

Tea here at the Brabourne: India A are 224-6 off 57 overs. England have fought hard, aided by a couple of Indian brainstorms...

Having lost Steve Finn in the first session, England's bowling options were hampered.

Finn's headed off for a scan on his right thigh...

Bresnan yorks Tiwary for 93 - off stump out of the ground. That's a slow walk off the field after a very good innings...

India A close an entertaining first day at the Brabourne on 369 for 9...
3 wickets for both Swann and Bresnan

Ball Deal

Jake Ball has signed a one year extension to his contract with Notts.

“Jake has improved immeasurably over the last two seasons and we feel that there is still more to come from him,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He still has time to develop but he’s at the age now where performance counts and his returns in limited overs cricket will be very important.”

“I felt more comfortable in the CB40 last season and I want to ensure that I do myself justice next season,” said Ball, 21.

“I’m generating more pace and I feel that I have enough control to impress during pre-season and force my way into Mick’s selection.”

Well done in securing another year but Jake will need to improve, become more penetrative, to remain at Notts beyond 2013 one feels.
