Haryana hang out for a draw

Sunday

With Finn and Broad having a bowling net and Swann due back on the Sub-continent tomorrow, the other bowlers still needed more practice in the middle, just in case of any hiccups, which is what they got. Reports say that Onions was much improved as Haryana were reduced to 133/6 when hands were shaken. England had declared setting a target of 442, a ton for Trott and a duck for Samit and KP.

Saturday

England closed the day 118/0 in their second innings against Haryana - unbeaten 50s for Trott and Compton. Haryana had earlier been dismissed for 333 - 3 wickets each for Bresnan and Meaker (Samit got 2), opener Rahul Dewan carrying his bat for 144.

Friday

Somerset have signed Alviro Petersen for the beginning period (pre T20) of the 2013 season. Petersen has previous County form with Essex last season and Glamorgan the season previously leaving with a feeling of bad-blood when he dumped them for pastures new.

England exhausted their innings on 521, Samit scoring another 67.

Samit looks in some serious nick.

Monday

An excuse or a reasoned argument?

A statistical study published on cricinfo today suggests Nottinghamshire’s 2012 Championship campaign was disproportionately affected by the weather and by injuries combined with England call-ups when compared to rivals.
According to the study; followers of Nottinghamshire were deprived of watching nearly 4 first choice players every game and 9/16 games were hit by the wettest summer since Noah took-up carpentry.
The fact that Samit Patel, Alex Hales and James Taylor all failed to produce the expected weight of runs, when it wasn't raining, has been glossed over but absenteeism did effect too many games, especially at the business end of the season.
The study does explain why Derbyshire emerged at the top of their respective heap, however.

Just for fun, here's the rain adjusted table.

In an interview on the Notts website, Wayne Noon didn't feel the disproportionate rainfall on Notts was as hamstringing to Notts' chances as were the Test call-ups but he also say that it up to the coaching staff to make sure that the squad players were up to the necessary standard - therefore we have to assume even they realise that some players weren't good enough in 2012.
