The Serge

So Life means 12 years.

Mohammad Azharuddin, now Indian MP, banned for life for match fixing in 2000, has had the said ban overturned by an Indian court. In 2006 BCCI had sought to lift the ban but were over ruled by the ICC.

A more instant punishment was dished out in 1988 during the Trent Bridge celebrations when a spectator who had been fairly vocal in response to some of the umpiring decisions made received a surprise visitor during a break in play from Notts' own Ro-bo-cop Umpire Nigel Plews, (former Police Detective Sergeant with the Fraud Squad) who gave as good as he had got, giving the spectator a severe telling off combined with vigorous finger wagging.

Sadly Nigel Plews passed away in 2008.
