Tuesday Blues

Wednesday 16/01

Perth Scorchers, featuring Adam Voges, squeaked passed Melbourne Stars in the second BBL semi.

Tuesday 15/01

With it cold at home, the Notts players playing elsewhere today didn't have a good warming day either. Alex Hales and Darren Pattinson's Renegades were dumped out of the BBL semis by Brisbane Heat while Samit Patel (30*), playing for England, was part of a side totally out played by India in the second ODI.

Monday 14/01

South Africa beat NZ by an innings and 193 runs

Saturday 12/01
Hales drops out of Duronto Rajshahi deal. Alex Hales has pulled out of the troubled Bangladesh Premier League, not that he has received a contract yet. The PCA remains greatly concerned over the whole event including payments and contracts.

Alex was due to play part of the competition, before taking on his International T20 duties in NZ.

Talking of New Zealand, they continue to get mauled by South Africa, like a lion toying with a 3 legged gazelle.

South Africa 525/8d New Zealand 47/6

Sunday .................................. thanks to the unfortunately named BJ Watling, New Zealand dragged their first innings to beyond double figures - all out 121.

In their second innings (the day's middle session) 43/1

At stumps on day 3 157/4

Voges in Pink

Wednesday 09/01

Adam Voges has sign for Middlesex Panthers, for their 2013 T20 squad.

Alviro Petersen has extended his stay at Somerset in 2013 to take in the T20 competition.

Tuesday 08/01

Chandersheep

Derbyshire have confirmed their signing of the West Indian, Shiv Chanderpaul for 2013.

In their second warm-up game, England won the toss and batted, opening with Cook and Bell against Delhi............................ weather again cool and foggy.

England posted 295/5 (Bell 108, Morgan 52) which ought to have been enough but the inexperienced pace attack still failed to come top terms with local conditions and Delhi ran out comfortable winners by 6 wickets.

Samit again missed out with the bat.

England can only improve from this ..................................... you'd hope!

Monday 07/01/13

Sydney Sixers overcame Brisbane Heat by 5 wickets, thanks to an unbeaten 61 by Michael Lumb. Sixers next play Melbourne Renegades who have Alex Hales flying south to join them.

Sunday 06/01/13

England warmed up after the Christmas break in a "50" over match against India A - the eleven representing England lacking Cook (cold) and looks to be light on top quality and heavy on cobwebs..

India A were restricted to 39 overs by fog on 224/4 and DL revised England's target to 229.
With opener KP's dismissal on 32, the wicket procession started.
Latest 72/6, the other opener, Bell 31*.

later

England slumbered to a 53 run defeat - Bell made 91, the Indian spinners dominating the batters. Conditions looked completely alien to folk from these parts; brown outfield and fog - more like Chelmsford in November, from TV pictures.

Ashley Giles - must do better!

Friday 04/01/13

Kiwis take flight!

New Zealand failed to reach base-camp and lost by an innings and 27 runs as World No.1 South Africa kept their steam-roller rolling - only Australian-born Dean Brownlie (109) showed any climbing skills as the last 5 wickets after his dismissal fell in the space of 23 hurried runs; Chris Martin, the last out, was run out - what's all that about?

Thursday 03/01/13

Calling Edmund Hillary

New Zealand have a mountain, needing the climbing skills of Sir Edmund Hillary, to climb after their dismal batting yesterday. South Africa declared, 300 ahead, 347/8 (3 wickets each for Chris Martin and Trent Boult) with three and a half days left.
Latest score New Zealand, making a much better attempt, 129/3 - still 173 in arrears.

Happy Birthday Alex Hales, 24 today.

Vernon slays Black Caps

Vernon Philander destroyed New Zealand with 5/7 in 6 overs as the tourists were brushed aside for 45 in 100 minutes.
AP 106
South Africa found batting more time consuming, latest score losing Smith for 1 and Amla for 66, 212/3 - Jacques Kallis passing 13 000 test runs, making 60.

Happy New Year and RIP CMJ

As 2012 departed, a year when Mr Bracegirdle tells us no past or present Notts cricketer has left this life, TMS's Christopher Martin-Jenkins died from cancer - condolences to his family.

In a game dominated by statistics, the law of averages will have us expecting multiple deaths of Notts players in the next 365 days or about 1 or 2 anyway.

a queue no one wants to be at the front of!
