The second completed T20 warm-up ended in a last ball 3 wicket win for NZ - fifties for Buttler(51) and Morgan (51*) - Lumb 45 but Hales, still keeping his powder dry for the real games, scored 4. NZ were always in the chase after Finn suffered punishment early on and needed only 9 runs from the last two overs but Broad made things tight with 3/24. Samit Patel bowled a tidier 1/20.

05/02

In the second attempt in Whangarei, a game was completed: Hales gave himself a gentle reminder that he can fail from opener but Lumb managed 25 before the Wright 44, Morgan 48 but especially Jos Buttler who let rip with 57* from 24 balls. Opponents, NZ XI were never in  the chase once Bear Woakes had rid the openers but Colin Munro showed so resistance before a hattrick from Skipper Broad nailed it for England.

Maxwell Gold

$1 000 000 Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell, the most golden of valuable players in this year's IPL player auction, managed a Golden Duck today in an ODI v WI at Perth but the all rounder had the last laugh as Australia ran out easy winners by 54 runs as Maxwell took 4/63 to back up Mitchell Starc's match snatching 5/32. No game for Huss, with the Australian XI looking almost second string in its make-up, George Bailey made 125 not out.
