England to take the Yorkshire Root
Nick Compton, good temperament 'n'all, might be sweating over his England position now. Today Joe Root (104) became the first Yorkshire to score his maiden Test Hundred at Headingley.
With the England selection panel fairly patient and understanding, Nick Compton's opening berth might remain secure only so long as KP remains sidelined with injury, if his run of non-scores continues.
As the Ashes series approaches, Mr Miller will surely want KP back (spit three times) and the players in the firing line would be Compton and Bairstow. Compton made 1 today, whilst Bairstow shared 100+ in partnership with Joe Root in making 65 for himself. If KP were to return, promoting Root to opener and dropping NC would be the least damaging option, retaining the Yorkshire pair of Root and Bairstow.
