Leicestershire Foxes v Unicorns YB40 at Grace Road and News

News

As mentioned below Monty Panesar moves from Sussex to Essex on loan after the club announced that he would be released at the end of the season.

Steffan Piolet has gone to Sussex on loan from Warwickshire for the remainder of the season.

Gummy Bears

Worcestershire dish-up another win under the lights, this time at Edgbaston, beating the Gummy Bears by 140 runs - a toothless performance again from Warwickshire. A ton for the bearded one and 4/24 the Squadron Leader.

So Monty is on the road to redemption at Chelmsford with a loan-out to Essex ................... now that is taking the urm................................................ biscuit if he thinks that will help get him on the tour party to Down-under!

Out Foxed

Leicestershire lost to the Unicorns today at Grace Road by 42 runs; the major architect of the defeat was former Notts and Derbyshire second elevens' Matt Lineker who scored 132. Garry Park ( ex Durham and Derbyshire) took 4/39 as the Foxes fell in the chase..

Lessons

Congratulations to Northamptonshire in winning the T20 Finals Day; no one would say they were the strongest outfit on the day or anywhere near to being the strongest in the competition but it does show what picking the right horse for the right course can do.

A lesson Mick Newell could extract is that you don't always have to play your senior ranked players to succeed after all Northants Club Captain, Stephen Peters, didn't get into the T20 XI. There was a time that Notts would select players more suited to the T20 game who could hit big and be athletic in the field rather than have big reputations and egos to match but deliver little.

Another lesson might be that hitting those boundaries can upset anyone's well made bowling plans, just as Outlaws were clueless as what to do at Hove when being hit to kingdom-come by Wright and Machan, etc the other night, Surrey crumbled against Wakely, Willey and Levi's onslaught; no amount of experience could help them and veteran Solanki (stand-in captain) lost his head, relying on his big names too much; Sticklebacks hitting themselves out of sight of any chasing eleven. Outlaws do have untouchable power at the very top of the order - Lumb and Hales are frighteningly expansive in the power play but this season there has been little power to follow.

You have to admire David Willey's honesty regards Jade Dernbach too, similar sentiments to what many feel towards all of Surrey CCC.

"I don't like the bloke much so it's nice to spoil his figures".

After a golden final for David Willey the cycle of fate will no doubt turn full circle and the lad will get three ducks in the forthcoming Lions' games against Bangladesh A and won't take any wickets for an economy rate of 12.00 per over whilst dropping catches all over the field but he certainly had a good day on Saturday.

A note of optimism for Outlaws, Northants were very ordinary only last week at Trent Bridge - they were second placed in the group, supposedly chasing Notts, but weren't even close in class or ability (that day)  and were out played in all departments.

Further evidence that the England test selectors look beyond Division One, even though the standards are so much higher in the top division, when Simon Kerrigan was called-up for the final Test squad of the summer at the expense of Monty Panesar, after Monty's late night urinations. Lancashire are clearly viewed as Division One and Monty is going to have to serve a period of conciliation.
