Horsham Reprieved

Sussex County Cricket Club are delighted to confirm that this season’s Horsham Festival of Cricket is to go ahead as planned in 2014.
Following a sustained effort on the part of both Horsham Cricket Club and the Sussex Cricket Commercial Team, the Club are able to confirm they will be once again returning to the Cricketfield Road Ground, where County Cricket has been held regularly since 1908.

There had been some doubt as to whether or not the Festival would take place this season due to a shortfall in finances, with the possibility of matches being moved to The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground. However, a concerted effort by the Club, in conjunction with a small number of sponsors and an anonymous benefactor, has ensured that Sussex are once again able to take top-class cricket around the County.
Sussex will be hosting an LV=County Championship Division One clash at Cricketfield Road in July, when they welcome Warwickshire before entertaining Nottinghamshire Outlaws in the Royal London One-Day Cup. The four-day game runs between Monday 21st and Thursday 24th July before the 50-over clash on Sunday 27th July.

AGM - some highlights

Following a plea for some news of what attending members can recall from Monday's AGM:

Director of Cricket, Mick Newell, says that the club are determined to finish in top half of championship he quoted positions in the last six years, 2, 2, 1 then the positions of last three years 6, 7, 7.

Mick Newell gave big thanks to 3 Stalwarts of the club
  • G Swann
  • D Hussey
  • P Johnson
Newell spoke of the need for the restructure and the requirement for a full time bowling coach, who will influence all age level teams.
D of C praised the commitment of H Gurney in getting to England team; improving tremendously since leaving Leicestershire.
Mick spoke of high hopes for a number of players for the future, some but not all listed below.
  •  Luke Wood (England Under 19)
  •  Simon Webster
  •  S Walton
Praise was also forthcoming for the efforts of Jenny Gunn in England's women's team
General view on accounts; Notts have made profit in 6 of last 7 years.
  • Only loss in that time when Notts had no test match in 2009, therefore there will be a potential loss in 2016, when no TB Test
Lisa Pursehouse confirmed that there would be two members forums again this year, one might be during the Durham CC game at end of May.
Future Test Match bidding from 2017, may be for next seven years rather than five, so Notts need to ensure they have a good bid and maintain test match status for TB.
TB reported how TB has again been rated as Top Test Match experience.
One Day Internationals are not big profit makers.
Jeff Moore elected to the Nottinghamshire Committee to replace Colin Maber who did not stand for re-election, all other candidates elected unopposed, as only one new candidate stood, therefore no ballot was required.
Former Committee man and Bank Manager Ian Hepburn appointed as the 92nd and next president of club for next two years
Reg Simpson died who in November 2013, with his funeral taking place at Felixstowe, will have a service of remembrance at St Giles, West Bridgford towards the end of April 2014, possibly 23rd.
