Siddle continues the TB Vic-con

Peter Siddle has said in interview that his signing for Notts:

  • fulfilled a desire to play county cricket
  • was influenced by years of positivity back in Australia about Notts and Trent Bridge from his Victorian team-mates Dave Hussey and Darren Pattinson
  • was ultimately swung by Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann.

Siddle grounded

Peter Siddle's arrival at Trent Bridge has been delayed by bureaucracy - he's sitting at home in Australia waiting for his visa to spend the summer in the UK.

Expected UK arrival for the Australian is now Tuesday with him making his Notts début at Lord's.

Mick Newell tells Radio Nottingham that Phil Jacques will open and Titch Taylor is likely to be injured for another 10 days and so Alex Hales will play the first Championship game.

With skies grey and drizzle falling; Nottinghamshire released the following 15 man squad on their website for tomorrow's opening game of the LV 2014 season:-

Steven Mullaney,
Alex Hales,
 Michael Lumb,
Phil Jaques,
Sam Kelsall,
Samit Patel,
 Riki Wessels,
Chris Read (c),
Sam Wood,
Andre Adams,
Luke Fletcher,
Brett Hutton,
Andy Carter,
Jake Ball
Harry Gurney

Despite the chatter about the good form of Sam Kelsall and Jake Ball, I'd expected them both to miss out as well as Brett Hutton and Sam Wood as Mick Newell is devotedly loyal to his core squad for Championship games; any changes would have to be injury influenced.

Currently missing: James Taylor, Peter Siddle and Ajmal Shahzad.

Will Alex Hales open with Phil Jacques or will Steven Mullaney retain that role?
