Dead rubber defeat
Having won the series, Lions lost to South Africa A by 78 runs. Samit Patel did score a fifty however. Harry Gurney took a wicket too.

Stokes stakes his claim

Dropped after senior England ODI tour of Sri Lanka....

Ben Stokes made an emphatic call to the selectors for reinstatement as he brutalised South Africa A hitting 151* including 15 sixes from 86 balls as Lions raced to 378/6 at Pretoria.

Lions won by 89 runs as Stokes, this time with ball in hand, took 3/51.

Poor ol' Samit Patel however, did himself no favours, reinforcing all preconceptions, being run out for 1 and only bowling the one ineffectual over but he did take a catch.

Lions ODI roar
Gurney’s 3-26, alongside an impressive 4-22 from Stokes, broke the back of the South African batting order, leaving a chase completed by Samit Patel, ending the match unbeaten on 17, sealing a four-wicket victory with 93 balls remaining.

Australia, fresh from their victory in the first test at Adelaide against India, but losing skipper Clarke, have also dispensed with the services of Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle for the Gabba test.

Siddle, searching for form and pace whilst with Notts last summer, had a poor tour of UAE in the fast bowlers' graveyard but returned with a couple of Indian scalps from the latest test. Sid might see himself sliding on a banana-skins, down the pecking order of Aussie quicks as Josh Hazlewood makes his test debut at the Gabba.

Peter Siddle produced a selector-reminding spell of quick bowling as he propelled Victoria to victory over South Australia, running through the opponent's top order like a thrice reheated curry.
