Wrapped in the cocoon of an ECB Central Contract, Stuart Broad only plays a minor role in any season for Notts, the ECB preferring to see their premier opening bowler, playing golf or playing jet-setting playboy to playing County Cricket. In a dire season for Notts, it would have been nice to have seen more of Stuart Broad. In his defence, he was seen at Trent Bridge on occasions, when County matches were being played, but of course with his England shackles on. Stuart bowled in 6 innings, claimed 10 wickets at 31. 2016 was a season to forget with Notts.
Unfortunately on the one occasion when his availability wasn't needed, he was made available and Mick Newell felt obliged to pick him, surplus to requirements, on Finals Day - another Newell moment.

Stuart needs the big stage. He can be frustrating when playing fir Notts. But this is a big Summer for him, leading into an even bigger Winter. With the great Jimmy Anderson fading, he has the chance to become England's number one strike bowler. To do that he needs to bowl fast and well in 4 day cricket early in the season. For once what he needs and Notts need are the same.
