Leicestershire Foxes RLODC at Grace Road Win

SENSATIONAL SAMITS LEADS OUTLAWS RETURN TO DOMINANCE
Notts record imposing target and professionally restrict a gallant Foxes' reply

A sensational hundred by Samit Patel was the highlight of an excellent performance by Notts at Grace Road today. Put in on a belter of a pitch with a lightning fast outfield; Notts notched a total of 409 for seven; Patel hitting exactly 100 off 63 balls with 14 fours and two sixes. He was well supported by a List A best of 76 by Tom Moores and 76 off 44 balls from Riki Wessels at the top of the order.

Varun Aaron and Gavin Griffiths conceded 86 and 83 respectively off their 10 overs. Meanwhile Callum Parkinson, twin brother of Lancashire's Matt who took 5 for 68 last week conceded 87 from his nine overs without taking a wicket. The youngster though had consolation of scoring an unbeaten 52 in Leicestershire's gallant reply of 316 for nine. However with Leicestershire sinking to 93 for five in reply, the result was never in doubt. Harry Gurney was the pick of the Notts bowlers with 4 for 58 off 10 overs. Samit Patel continued his excellent match with 2 for 52 off his 10 overs. The skIpper resisted the temptation to bowl himself as Billy Root conceded 70 in his 10 overs spell picking up Eckersley with a full toss.

Leicestershire inserted an unchanged Notts. The opening bowlers were Raine (Bennett End) and Aaron (Pavilion End). Notts got 5 off the first 3 overs, but the rest of the innings remained on turbo charge. The erratic Aaron went for 39 off 4 overs, including a straight and a leg side sixes by Wessels in an over costing 18. Griffiths replaced Aaron, Notts 69 for 0 after 10 overs. Parkinson was greeted with two sixes by Wessels who reached his 50 in 33 balls (5 x 4, 4 x6). The 100 came up in 14th over via a straight driven four by Wessels off Griffiths. Dexter came on for the 16th over and Wessels having played so well gave it away as a loosener from the former Kent and Middlesex all rounder was guided straight to Cosgrove at backward point, 118 for one in the 16th over. Wessels 76 off 44 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes. Tom Moores came in and swatted Griffiths for a six over square leg. Nash got to his 50 off 57 balls via a six over mid wicket off Dexter. Next over Nash was caught at deep square leg by Ackermann off Griffiths for 56 (62 balls, 8 x 4, 1 x 6), 155 for 2 after 21 overs. Nash struggling somewhat in the championship has hit two List A half tons in three matches. Moores was dropped on 21 by Griffiths at long leg off Dexter, the ball swirling in the wind; not the easiest of chances. The Notts 200 came up in the 28th over as Moores reached 50 off 44 balls. Dexter then bowled Ross Taylor for 25, 218 for three. Dexter the most economical bowler in the match with 10-0-50-2. Moores hit Parkinson for a huge six over long on, 18 off the over. Moores departed in the 37th over the caught at Horton at mid off, Griffiths the bowler. Moores 76 (62 balls, 8 x 4, 2 x 6), 260 for four. Moores performances with the bat this season have exceeded expectations. He clearly sees the ball early; hits the ball hard and has plenty of self belief. Parkinson was hit for six over mid wicket by Patel, 14 off the over. Notts 293 for 4 off 40 overs. The 300 came up via a six over extra cover by Patel off Raine, he repeated the shot again in the same over. Next over, Raine got hit for a straight six by Patel who brought his 50 off 38 balls, 16 off the over. Samit was in wonderful touch. Mullaney was caught at extra cover off Aaron for 29, the fifth wicket had added 80 in seven overs. Billy Root hit Aaron for six over third man in the same over, 17 off the over. Griffiths got hit for 15 including two offside fours and a six over long on by Patel. In the 44th over Root was caught behind for 20 off Ben Raine, 390 for six. Patel and Root had added 50 in 30 balls. Samit got to his magnificent hundred in 62 balls with an on drive for four off Raine. Patel was then brilliantly caught on the boundary by Ackermann doing boundary rope gymnastics off Aaron for 100.Notts closed 409 for seven; Fraine 8 not out. Fletcher 0 not out. Notts had taken full advantage of some poor stuff from Leicester; Indian Aaron being far too erratic..

Leicester had to climb Everest and in the opening over of the reply, Carberry (6) played on to Ball. Ackermann (5) skied Ball to cover where Patel took a well judged catch on the run, 13 for two. Patel could do no wrong. Fletcher bowled three overs for 18 and was replaced by Gurney. With his second ball, Gurney got Cosgrove (11) going for a leg side hit to bottom edge on to his stumps, 46 for three. Leicestershire ended the first power play on 59 for three. Fletcher then replaced Ball from the Bennett End and was hit for a straight six by Eckersley. An excellent acrobatic catch by Moores down the leg side off Gurney saw Horton depart for 35, 79 for four. A gentle full toss for his opening ball from Billy Root resulted in Ned Eckersley (23) putting the ball straight into Wessel’s hands at deep square leg, 93 for five. Root had bowled five overs for 34 with Neil Dexter hitting him for six. Next over Dexter (45) holed out to Wessels bowled Patel, 148 for six. Root was hit for six over long on by Tom Wells. Raine then hit two sixes off Patel, but the game had long since died as a contest. The Leicester 200 came up in the 33rd over and then Raine hit his third six this time off Root over mid wicket. Raine’s entertaining cameo ended as he was bowled by Patel's arm ball for 35, 209 for seven. Wells reached his 50 off 60 balls with a four through fine leg off Fletcher. Wells finally departed getting a bottom edge to Gurney and being given bowled for a List A best of 69 (3 x 1, 1 x 6), 262 for eight. Two overs later Aaron was yorked by Gurney. Parkinson and Griffiths who had conceded 170 runs in 19 overs but an unbroken 42 for the last wicket in glorious evening sunshine. Notts won this match by an emphatic 93 runs, they probably need a further three wins from the last five to ensure qualification to the knockout stages. MAG
