Alex Hales Nottinghamshire Career Records 2008 - 2018

Alex Hales remains a match winner but,

In 2018 he bagged himself a two year white only contract, which annoyed many Notts supporters.
In the height of summer, Notts were struggling for batsmen, batsmen in form, batsmen with any experience, Notts were struggling for numbers; Alex was fit and wasn't busy with England duties at that time but evidently felt that he couldn't step-up and answer the call to help his club out in its hour of need! Again that annoyed supporters. Very disappointing!

Alex's strategy is to secure a place in next year's world cup but, I'd say that his plan isn't working as, injury, the fixtures, other players in the England set-up and his shortsighted contract have meant Alex hasn't played enough cricket, hasn't score many runs and isn't currently playing for England in Sri Lanka.

  1. Up until recently, I had always defended his decision regarding the red ball situation and his contract is between him and the club and no one else(I accept this could lead to resentment in the dressing room, however). But, what I wasn't banking on was just how LITTLE he would actually play for the Outlaws, admittedly he can do nowt about ill timed injuries coupled with the alleged rumours of his refusal to help us out in a 4 dayer, when we were down to the bare bones. All this being the case, do we simply put up with him or sever all connections and make a stance? Also, is there now a chance he may decide it hasn't worked out the way he anticipated and could be be willing to return to red ball also?Unfortunately, today's players are becoming wealthy and with that brings them options that they never used to have. He holds the aces(someone else would have given him the white ball deal he wanted and he knows it)so could more or less dictate from a position of strength, especially after the white ball season he had prior to last.

    1. He's played his aces and now he's just left holding jokers. Hales' career now is in the hands of others, he's not a first choice at the moment for England, he has too few runs in the bank this year, hasn't demonstrated any kind of form in 2018 and has lost a lot of good will over the perception that he abandoned Notts in their hour of need and also the Stokes court case.

    2. You are absoluitely correct 'Nottsviewer' - Alex has been poor for several Seasons now, the odd brilliant Innings does not compensate for the very many poor ones. Personally I wish that Notts would have gotten rid of him when he refused to play 4 day cricket and even more so having seen his apparent bad behaviour with Ben Stokes - both should have been charged with ABH, the CPS may a mess of dealing with the whole matter.Notts can do without his sort of behaviour - what messages does it give to younger players? Notts lose the moral high ground if they don't take action themselves against their own players who misbehave - we don't want success at any price and Hales now needs to go.

    3. He did win us the One Day Cup in 2017, almost single handed in the final.

  2. Not sure Alex deserves the 'brickbats' flying around here. He has been an excellent member of the team and clearly still wants to develop his white ball game. It seems likely that he has accepted the limitations his technique has in red ball cricket and moved on.
