350 overs and 40-50 wickets from him per season. Fairly consistent I would say ("red ball"). Peter Moores is known for his love of stats so I would assume he would know whether such a record is typical of a new ball bowler, 3rd or 4th seamer (feels like a 3rd seamer to me). Of course there is an argument too that "support" bowlers play better when working with a strike bowler (think back to the impact of Pattinson on, for example, Fletcher at the start of the season before last).
ReplyDeleteAlso indicates to me that Gurney is not quite the white ball specialist we might have been consigning him to being
The Pub Landlord gets a bit of stick from the terraces, but he's been a good, consistent signing from the Foxes. When he has an off day, like Radar, he can be awful when he starts spraying it around. He is one of the best white ball bowlers in the country but as he bowls in the first 6 and then at the death, every so often he will miss his lengths and go round the park, unfortunately as was the case against Somerset this year.Suspect his average fielding and lack of batting technique has hindered him gaining more T20 caps for the national team, but that's been to our advantage
ReplyDeleteProbably for the best after his recent tweets about the longer forms of cricket. If he had continued in red ball cricket he would hardly have been totally enthusiastic. He and Hales are poor examples in the dressing room to the young lads. You lads go and do the hard miles and we'll turn up when less effort and time is required. I note a certain arrogance in the tweets of Mr Gurney as he has gone down the cheap scoring line of Piers Morgan correcting the grammar of critics and comparing his followers to reinforce his point. This shows him in a very poor light.
