Samit Patel Nottinghamshire Career Records 2002 - 2018

Samit had a poor year in 2018, let's hope 2019 shows improvement for the popular player.

  1. 19 wickets only this Season is not good enough and his batting average also is not good - BUT he has been a good servant to Notts and remains a huge favourite with the crowds. Let's hope that he does have a couple of good Seasons left in him. I still believe that his less than hoped perfomance may have something to do with what may be wrong behind the scenes / at higher management level. Often after prolonged periods of him not bowling he will come on and take a quick wicket - is he being used to best advantage?

  2. Fair point Andrew about Samits poor form last season being due to possible problems with management, I do wonder though if what was needed was a break from cricket, I seem to remember both Samit and Rikki ( now sadly departed the club)had quite a busy winter playing T20 , Is it just coincidence that both had by their standards a poor season this summer ? ...

    1. You can't blame them for following the money but if players play year round with no break, no time for taking stock and assessing technique and finding flaws in said technique that have crept in, then those players' value to the teams that they associate with will drop. Their monetary returns will dry up and there might be an outside chance that even Notts might drop them or even let you go. Riki has gone but Samit is dyed in the wool Notts and bleeds green and gold, but at times last season if we had had an alternative...

but we didn't have so Samit was allowed to carry on under performing badly, measured by his own high standards and the standards that the club needed him to be performing at.

So yes Zanga, both Riki and Samitought to have had a break last winter, spent with their young families instead of chasing the T20 circus dollars.... but it's all water under the (Trent) bridge now. Lessons learnt?

Completely agree(I must have taken out membership to the Zanga fan club)but seriously, I was spouting all last season that his winter schedule must have caught up with him-or is it pure coincidence? Interesting though, last time we won the Holy Grail back in 2010 he ended up batting 7 or perhaps even 8. More alarmingly to me though was his form in his preferred white ball format.Teams seemed to target his regulation left arm slow bowling and did little with the willow.Top quality player though, especially in white ball, hopefully he returns refreshed and out to prove a point and the REAL Samit Patel can return with his customary aplomb next season?

  3. I have always thought that Samit, Luke F, Rikki were 'atmosphere' players - when Player and Club morale was high they did well. Perhaps the strains of Captaincy are weighing heavy on Mullaney's shoulders and so he is no longer 'one of the lads' - I never thought that Chris Read made the most of Mullaney, Patel, Andy Carter and some others and hoped that Mullaney would have been able to perhaps learn from that and turn it around a bit.

    1. I think the jury's out on the captaincy of Steven Mullaney, so far it's early days with a rocky start.

Agree Harry, BUT, the Capitano is only as good as his personnel, no matter whether your mike brearley, Stephen Fleming or Raymondo illingworth

    3. And how much REALLY in control is the Captain? Who actually picks the Teams and makes decisions about declarations / follow-ons etc.
