What a great name ! The Zimbabwe player Northants have signed
ReplyDeleteHe arrives with their blessing, apparently. Elgar returns to the KIA to his land of hope and possibly glory again?
ReplyDeleteOnly five counties have no Overseas player announced, either for CC, ODC, T20 or a combo deal
DeleteWondered whether we may have taken a stab on Renshaw. Wondering also whether we are still considering the gamble on Patto's fitness, assuming CA would allow him to play. You could very cynically argue the DoC may strategically announce some news on the overseas targets at the AGM to deflect any criticism they may cop over the fixtures and the hundred baller, but we know Notts would never do such a thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there were 3..... without any confirmed or otherwise overseas provision announced.
ReplyDeleteYou can call me a cynic too, but I predict that there will be an announcement from TB HQ with regards to overseas player or players either at the end of next week or the beginning of the week after. It's obviously not connected to any meetings at all that might be happening with members or anyone else. Obviously not!
Will the NOTTINGHAMSHIRE CCC TOP TABLE TEAM get a hard ride at the AGM on the 26th?
ReplyDeleteLets hope so !The Club have many questions to answer for things going on and off the field . Does anyone else have a sinking feeling about the economic viability of the new "SIX" restaurant ?
It could end up a financial millstone around Notts, neck ?
Top Chefs demand top salaries . Top salaries mean top restaurant prices .
Has market research been carried out to test the potential demand for yet another eating place in Nottingham ?
Its very hard to get a return on catering when millions have been spent . The 20 odd restaurants in Nottingham that closed down in 2018 is a testament to how difficult things are on a day to day basis .
Of course ,it COULD be a roaring success . Lets hope so but ....................
One would imagine that as the club refers to the SIX restaurant as a partnership with the Michelin Star restaurateur Tom Sellers the club is very much the landlord and Tom Sellers restaurant business the tenant.
ReplyDeleteAll will be revealed pretty shortly ref the 'SIX" financial arrangements .
ReplyDeleteNotts have always enjoyed a good Kiwi, so why not Neil Wagner for at least April and May before the World Cup?
ReplyDeleteInteresting article in the Nottingham Post by Matt Davies,It gives some indication of the club's thinking regarding next season's overseas players
ReplyDeleteYou would have to say that whilst it would be great to see Patto back... injuries permitting...the reality is it's unlikely to happen given that Cricket Australia would have to give permission.
Nice to see that Notts are actually looking to play the likes of Matt Carter in T20 next season,One thing is for sure Carter should be at least Sodhi's match...And a he'll of a lot cheaper!
Not overly convinced by the DoCs comments. I'm all for giving Carter a chance but he's completely unproven in this format and if he goes round the park, where do we go? Teams certainly seemed to target Patel last year. Agree about Sodhi, did a reasonable job but nothing spectacular for the money and sure we can do better. Teams like leg/mystery wrist spinners as they're wicket takers in T20 so I would suggest we need this as an option to do well in the competition. Hope I'm wrong, but please don't say the DoCs already losing interest in the domestic blast one year before the new fangled thing is thrust upon us?
DeleteWe seem to be pretty keen to give white ball only contracts. How.much will Harry be available in 2020, which is part of his contract, with IPL potentially overlapping with the Blast ?
ReplyDeleteSo very true Richard
DeleteMick Newell was right when he stated that if Notts had not given Harry a white ball contract there would have been 17 others who would.
ReplyDeleteHG was in a position of strength and he knew it, Far better for Notts to be pragmatic and accept that than to risk facing him playing for another county.
Let's not forget also that his decision does open up a place in the team,Yes we may miss his bowling but there are younger players in the seconds who should be relishing the chance to claim a place in the team
Teams do evolve over a period of time,Guerneys decision has just moved forward the evolution of the side a little quicker than anticipated.
For me his choice of playing white ball only is a wise one, Who when they have a young family and a flourishing business to look after is going to turn the chance of more cash for less work..Not me or suspect many others,,,
Perhaps he's after a Test call-up just like Rash did with his white ball only contract.
Delete100percent spot on Zanga, we might not like it, but there's no point in not agreeing and seeing him line up against us for another county. Every county that could afford his white ball deal would have taken him so what else could the DoC have done? You could take the stance of getting rid, like some members would have done with Baz, but then we lose two world class white ball performers completely, so where is the logic in that stance?
DeleteGreat to have Patto (jnr !) back !
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping this right up to date, it sort of makes me feel better reading it in those months with no cricket. The County Championship starts on Friday. Please support your nearest county by going to see your local county play, especially if you live in or near or support Notts ! There is a fight now to save the County Championship and all 18 counties. That fight can in part be by polite conversation and discussion (if the ECB start to respond to reasonable requests to do just that) or by legal and civilised protest. Either way, or both, it is still a fight
ReplyDeleteMatt Milnes 5 for 79 and 26 for Kent v Hampshire today - Notts ought to have tried to keep him as he showed great promise last Season.
ReplyDeleteWith reference to story that Notts are keen on Imad Wasim for the 2nd overseas berth:
ReplyDeleteNo disrespect - he's a good cricketer but not top drawer. I don't see what he would bring to our side. Surely we have the batsman spinner / vice versa brief covered adequately. What we really need (as does everyone else) is a wicket taking paceman - aka Lockie Ferguson!
Well at least Mark Footitt has now gone with the usual 'warm words' from the Director of cricket - a dreadful signing he proved to be and one which most of us never understood. Whether he was improving UNTIL he came to Notts we won't know unless another County pick him up and he demonstrates that he can play better than he ever did for us - certainly his more recent improvement was dramatically halted at Notts.
ReplyDeleteIt's a really shame he was inflicted with such a pain in the neck, from which he never made a real come back.
DeleteAnother excellent Innings today by Ricki Wessels for Worcester Rapids - the odds are not looking so bright for Notts now. What we have seen recently at Notts is the impact of the loss of more experienced players SO do we accept that there is a 're-building' process going on and that some of our new 'imports' will come good OR that the future is not looking like we want it to?
ReplyDeleteAnd another good Innings last night by Wessells.
ReplyDeleteyes he made the right move for himself
DeleteMatt Milnes 7 wickets so far against Yorkshire!! What a major loss of a fine Bowler.
ReplyDeleteGreat news and clearly a policy change at Notts; following LPW's 3 year deal, Joey Evison has signed a similar deal, school work permitting...
ReplyDeleteMatt milnes bowler of the season at Kent
ReplyDeleteJoe Root coming to the KP Snacks Side!!!
