New Signing Confirmed as Ravichandran Ashwin

It has now been confirmed that Ravi Ashwin has signed for Notts, to play six CC1 games from the end of June until the end of the season.

He is scheduled to be available for:

Essex at Trent Bridge
Somerset at Taunton
Surrey at Trent Bridge

Kent at Trent Bridge
Warwickshire at Trent Bridge
Surrey at The Oval

He will be on India duty during the time of the game at Scarborough against the Tykes.

The New Indian Express reports:

NEW DELHI: Senior India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be tuning up for the inaugural World Test Championship against West Indies by playing in English County for Nottinghamshire.

"Yes, Ashwin will be playing for the Notts this season. The CoA had already made it clear that any centrally contracted cricketer will have automatic rights to play County cricket if that player gets an offer.

"Ashwin's deal is almost final and only the CEO needs to sign his NoC," a senior BCCI functionary privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

After Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane inked a deal with Hampshire, it is the turn of Ashwin to play six division 1 County games for the Nottinghamshire side that also has England's premier fast bowler Stuart Broad in their ranks.

This will be Ashwin's second stint in English County, having played four games for Worcestershire during the 2017 season.
It was a fruitful season back then for the 32-year-old, who got 20 scalps in four games and also scored 214 runs.

The BCCI has been in touch with the various county sides as they want their top long form specialists to play county cricket every season during June and July.

As of now, Rahane, Ashwin and Cheteshwar Pujara (with Yorkshire on three-year contract) are certain to play the county games.

Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma may also feature in a few games if things fall in place.

  1. Sincerely hope not. After the mankading he did to Jos Buttler . . . he'll be getting abuse from this Notts fan. Disgraceful. No place at Notts.

  2. Not counting chickens just yet, how many overseas 'signings' never arrive or don't stay long, but if he comes and can make 2/3 match winning performances then that should be enough to stave off relegation...well maybe..!

    1. Probably wise not to, except his Indian employers want to get their players in the County Championship so if they're driving the deal...

Apart from The Incident dont think we could have signed much better? The DoC was saying he could bat 6 in the county game.Lets all hope Patto is fit in 10 days time. Is no one at the club concerned by all these pitiful displays in red ball since the last win in this format?
