Return of the Tosses?

Counties want toss to return.

A number of counties are lobbying the England and Wales Cricket Board to reintroduce the toss for the 2020 County Championship season. Under a rule change brought in two years ago in order to discourage counties from producing overly green seaming wickets the away side is presently given the option of bowling first (PTG 1698-8376, 28 November 2015).

Given that a heavier roller and a new ball with a flatter seam have been introduced this season which has made batting easier, many counties believe there is now no need for an uncontested toss and that the County Championship should return to the traditional rules.

Last week, in a move aimed at preventing Ranji Trophy teams from doctoring pitches to suit their strengths, a meeting of Indian state captains and coaches recommended to their home board that it consider doing away with the toss and having the visiting captain decide whether they wish to start a game batting or bowling. However, such a move was, according to reports, "unlikely to be implemented soon” (PTG 2798-13954, 21 May 2019).

It would be an obvious pun to make a quip about certain members of our squad with regard to the headline, so i won't do it.

    1. I think younger readers, less familiar with the Bee Gees need to Google "Clive Anderson, Bee Gees walk off Les Tosseurs"

Its certainly NO coincidence that we have struggled to win games with this format. Previously,a glut of early season games at Mick Newells preference and his quote",result pitches but fair to both teams," served us extremely well with ,200 to 220 being a good score, although you always risked getting inserted and shot out in a session. Another slight advantage in those days, however, was a seam attack of the dreaded Kolpak Andre Adams, Ryan Sidebottom,Darren Pattinson, Charlie Shrek&Mark Ealham
