Notts have signed Kevin Shine, formerly ECB lead fast bowling coach, as another Assistant Coach to Peter Moores along with Paul Franks.
The appointment sees Andy Pick relieved of first team responsibilities. Andy Pick will now work with manager Matt Wood and 2nd team coach Ant Botha in "Elite Pathway" duties.
Arguably Pick could be seen as unlucky in so much as he has successfully, in recent years, brought bowlers such as: Brett Hutton, Matt Milnes and Luke Wood through from the Second XI. All three are expected to be first team regulars next season in Division 1.
Well, Andy never really did shine did he?
ReplyDeleteWill his Kevin be more a success as in Cooper or less so as in Mackintosh
ReplyDeleteCare to explain this to the uninitiated?
Deletesomeone is showing their age Kevin
DeleteOK - carry on with coded comments - not what this Site ought to be all about. Not all of us know everything.
ReplyDeleteKevin Cooper, the last Englishman to take 100 FC wickets in a season. You may of heard of him. Kevin Mackintosh appeared for Notts back in the day.
DeleteThink he means we had Kevin Cooper and a player from distant memory called Kevin Mackintosh(?) Is Kevin Central playing with our memories.............so what about Kevin Evans, Kevin Keegan, Kevin Pietersen....or just old Kevin the Carrot
ReplyDeleteYes those Kevins - I don't count Pietersen as he was KP and a d***!
ReplyDeleteThe only time Pick is "unlucky" as stated above is when he arrives at the Raddy Rd Fish Bar and it's closed early. But joking aside he did speak well at a cricket lovers meeting a few seasons back and yes he has brought these young lads through which is not his problem if they then decide to opt for pastures new. But, as Kevin Shine is surely coming in as main bowling coach(his title to me is just another club masquerade to try to fool us) which has to be an improvement, let's just create a new job with a fancy title for dear old Picky. Seem to recall we did that before when we created a shiny new role for the coach when he had reached the end of the road?
ReplyDeleteHis inability to correct Bally has cost him. He's kept his job but it is definitely a slap in the chops for Ode Enery XVIII
ReplyDeleteYes - I think that coaches should look fit and set an example to the players . You cannot have a bowling coach that cannot run in and show how its done . Not at all out pace but at a reasonable level . Andy Pick was a good ,steady and reliable medium fast bowler for quite a while for Notts . He was never a lightweight . Was always going to have a tendency to thicken out in middle age ,but perhaps he liked a pint with the lads a little too often and its easy to pile on the pounds .
ReplyDeleteNotts seem to top heavy with CHIEFS at the moment and not many INDIANS. Is the total wage bill being aimed in the wrong direction ?
WE NEED SOME MORE GOOD HONEST FIT PLAYERS WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO PLAY FOR US IN ALL FORMATS.
The likes of Samit and Fletch are probably going to be a dying breed in the not too distant future .
To be fair the only thing that ought to count is one's ability to do the job but, sadly, Andy Pick has been picked on (do excuse the pun!!!) because of his appearance. '75...' is probably correct in highlighting what some of us are more prone to than others weight-wise. Given Notts relegation and quite long-standing inability to bowl other Sides out twice in the 4-day Game the Bowling Department has to be more effective - BUT, the Coaches can only work with the material that they have got and to have lost Hutton and Milnes were quite major blows which Mr Pick can not be blamed for.
