  1. Figures not fantastic, but he contributed I think, with his knowledge and experience

At the start of this "season" he said, when it was possible there would be no cricket, he feared that young players would not get the games they need in the first team

That to me is a good pro

  2. Nash was a solid opening bat in his day.

Sadly, when he arrived at Notts, his days of top performances, had disappeared down the swanny river.

When you consider the annual salary, that he was reportedly taking out the club, which I believe was in excess of 6 figures, then you have to conclude, that Notts received poor return on their investment.

Giving a 3 year contract, to a player who was in obvious decline, was absolutely ludicrous.

Let us hope that Mr Newell, has learnt his lesson, at long last.

Yes, I agree Mark, overall not very good value but probably did a decent job in the dressing room etc. Guess you could argue hes a bit unlucky as got injured in his first season then had this strange season in his final year of contract. I've heard similar figures reported which seems excessive for a player on the decline. Has been a very good, consistent player for Sussex down the years but we got the Gnasher obviously well past his best. Still showed glimpses most famously in the qtrs against the Middlesex Panthers last year. Definitely not one of our most inspired signings but we were desperate for players after all.

  4. He had a good career overall without ever knocking on the England door.Im not party to what he got paid but if the figures are anywhere near accurate it does seem a lot. That said he did captain the club at one point ,always seemed committed and ended up with a winners medal.

  5. A lucky boy to get a 3 year lucrative contract at his age. Over the 3 seasons he scored a total of 1128 runs for us at an average of 25. So was that a decent return for an outlay of circa £300,000? ( three seasons at £100K)
Dishing out long juucy contracts to ageing players will surely now be a thing of the past? Better for performance related contracts of a season at a time?
But obviously a decent Pro and well regarded in the game as a whole
    Marks out of 10 ? A 5 I reckon.

  6. Correction to my above posting . I seem to remember the Notts CCC players and staff taking 20% pay cut for the season just finished . So the ammended Nash wage total is now £280,000.
Just think - some footballers earn that every WEEK !
