Bonkers, Will it Ever Go Away?

CO-VID19 has, it must to be said, had its negative impact on the country and the world. However, whilst clutching at straws for a positive impact, county cricket supporters cannot fail to be gladdened by the fact that the wretched Hundred was postponed at least for 12 months.

A wise head at the ECB would surely decide to cut losses and sack the scheme off in its entirety, rather than pigheadedly carry-on regardless...

... but there’s still no wise head at the ECB alas.

So, it’s head down and full steam ahead into an uncertain future.

The Skip-Full Rockets have retained Goldenboy Joe Root, The Afghan and the England Leper from the shameless draftees from 12 months ago when a fair portion of the Outlaws team were relabelled as Trent Rockets in an attempted to curry favour with the Nottingham public. But there was one omission from that cherry basket; Samit Patel. After the 2020, such as decision to overlook Samit looks somewhat ridiculous. Samit was in fact overlooked by all of the plastic franchises which seems bonkers as he ticks all the role model and diversity boxes of the fabled new audience and he had a much improved 2020.

After the “success” of the first draft 13 months ago, the whole circus (with a its full compliment of clowns), is set for a repeat performance in February 2021.

Perhaps Stephen Fleming will, with his advisors, seek to edit some of the “errors” from the first draft.

Perhaps Samit will be in line for another payday after all.

Maybe the two most influential batsmen of 2020, Clarke and Duckett could find themselves more desirable second time around and be massaged into the Trent Bridge franchise with their pals.

Perhaps the Leicestershire players will be not so invisible in the 2021 draft?

  1. Surely the boneheads at the ECB MUST be having second thoughts about the expensive re- launch of the ill- fated 100 Comp?
Without crowds in the various grounds to actually physically see it ” live” then its going to be a damp squib?
Without ticket revenue from the paying public surely it would be a drain on finances?
Money in the game will be tight next year as things stand now.
Wise heads might prevail and the whole 100 Ball Comp be mothballed until more normal times return?

    1. Agree totally. One thing really upsetting me though why is the Nottinghamshire ccc website carrying this s**t about trent rockets? If this is supposed to be so good a comp etc etc they should have their own website . Totally fed up with this . Get this rubbish off

  3. The new ECB Chairman's stated love for Test and County Cricket cheered me a little, but yes, he is signed up to the "Blundered"

  4. Perhaps Teflon Mick, resplendent in his Skip Full Rockets, replica shirt won't be needed again at the player draft this time ? And of course like we were told, he had nothing to do with picking half of the Notts Outlaws T20 side, some players of which coach Stephen Fleming would probably have little knowledge of ?

  5. I’m lost for words now with the 106 . Neither of them are for me. The question is, who are they for?

  6. PJ - I dont know about you but I am being bombarded by emails from TB urging me to book a table in the SIX Restaurant commencing 2nd Dec . Its relentless. To be honest I have studied the various menus on offer and they just dont look very appealing. I know you have to take the surroundings into account but the food looks pretty overpriced and too ”arty” in appearance. Whats the odds of the SIX being open in its present form in 12 months time?
    About 10/1 I reckon ?!

    1. No - they don't communicate with me!!! Whether it opens or not hardly matters as it will continue to make huge losses. It is absolute folly to keep it going with its £100k Head Chef who works around 10 days per annum apparently. Save money and appoint the chief fryer from the Bridgford Chip Bar across the road.

  7. That’s other thing, there are many and varied food outlets to meet most tastes at fair prices in the immediate vicinity of the ground.

Things may have been streamlined but if not the overheads are enormous. The Michelin Star chef plus the Head Cheaf a guy called Leckie plus the sous chef who is on Masterchef next week, apparently, plus the cocktail shaker plus any other kitchen or waiting staff.I too get regular emails as I registered out of idle curiosity. I certainly, personally speaking, would never pay those prices. But there's clearly some sort of demand for fine dining cuisine around the various parts of the U.K.and there's obviously huge profit margins with the ridiculous prices these establishments charge for their food and drink. Whether there's enough demand in the East Midlands and based at a cricket ground when you only open 3 days a week is a different matter ? Two aspects that I have found unusual when you're desperately trying to advertise a new and upcoming business is A) they remained closed during the Govts. Eat out to help out scheme in August and B) they were closed over the Christmas period last year. This is a time where most hospitality venues thrive not refuse custom, surely ?

    1. There was a limit on the 50% that Restaurants could claim back - it certainly didn't run to 50% of the 'Six' Restaurant's prices - the Government would have been in an even worse financial mess!!! Lisa's 'folly' will only probably go when she does.

  9. Think the refund limit was £10 per person per meal .
Using that level of discount in the SIX RESTAURANT would mean Sunday lunch for two with a bottle of house plonk would reduce the bill from circa £160 to £140.
Fantastic value - I dont think!?

Yes, think you're right, but some places were also offering their own discount and taking some sort of hit themselves in order to promote eating out again and to promote their business. Cafe Six clearly opted to stay Furloughed but I'm only aware, personally, of one other establishment that remained closed during this period so that in itself tells you a story. If they open over the Xmas/NY period this year, Mick could add extra sparkle and a festive twist to the eating experience by dressing up in an Elf's costume and waiting on tables personally

  10. Sometimes, and a health condition that I am fighting to defeat as Notts fight to defeat the other team, has changed my philosophy : we need, I think, to accept what we cannot change

The Hundred is going ahead,we need to work with, and not against the management of this club
But there has been a change throughout the game with from ICC and now the new Chair of ECB, total commitment to FC and Test Cricket
As with match play and stroke play golf, the shortest and longest formats can live together, must live together
International cricketers express their love for and determination to play Test Cricket
We have have to accept much shorter tours, but we have won a victory that we need to maintain, red ball game is now under much less threat

  11. Good points. I don’t watch the IPL, never will do . I don’t intend to watch the 106.as long as we have our fair share of test and county cricket (which we must at times fight for ) then the other stuff is by no means compulsory.
