I'm just not having the 216 against the Cov-ersities(just a little jokette about some students behaviour in our city), but last season in both comps, showed what ability he has. Still would argue he is more of a white ball exponent and in particular in the recent T20 final deserves massive credit for seeing us through to the end despite a poor start in such a huge pressure situation. Think sometimes, his strength of the reverse sweep and switch hits can also be his downfall at the expense of hitting it cleanly down the ground instead. It's all about shot execution and it's looks good when you nail it. In a similar way when you look back at dismissals of Lord Gower, he's often out lazily wafting outside off stump but as I've heard him say previously I scored 8,000 test runs playing this way so I must have done something right.
ReplyDeleteBen is only 26 and probably hasnt reached his peak yet.
ReplyDeleteNow he is settled at Notts he can go on to greater things,
His best pal Clarke has also had a good season . Evidently things are working out. Notts now look a strongish unit on paper( dont they always?)
Here’s hoping for much better success for Notts in the Red Ball game next year.
Well done to Ben on the overal player of the season for 2020. Always liked him when at Northants, just had a bit of a mare in 2019 along with most others. There's certainly enough awards being dished out for such a truncated season. So what about one for " Experienced player coming to the end of his playing days" also or "Best left handed batsman at the club" or "Player who looks best in his playing kit" or "Player best at cards in the dressing room" or "Players best suited to a night on the town" - that's a closed shop award for the usual perennials who are only allowed to enter and finally " Player most featured on Notts Twitter but who actually never played for us in the season" - Stuart Broad always amongst the runners in this award.
