  1. Dane Schadendorf for Notts - this is an interesting one. Surprisingly, maybe, given the unusual surname, this is a different Schadendorf than the one who played for the seconds a couple of years ago as a batsman - that was Jayden Schadendorf. Dane Schadendorf is a wicketkeeper batsman. Is there a thought Moores might get called up for IPL or England, or is this maybe to do with the Hundred? When around, Duckett, Clarke and Budinger can all keep wicket, although none are out and out keepers these days. Duckett did keep today in the Abu Dhabi T10 league though.

  2. So he isn't an American folk song ?

  3. If we do play 50 overs during the Hundred, might we have a rather traditional opening pair? Slater and Hameed?

    1. Really hard to predict the team, but could include Budinger, Lyndon James, Patterson-White, D. Schadendorf and maybe some academy batsmen? If we get to the knockouts we might win, but getting there will be a challenge. With the strange backdrop of the Hundred, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northants may be the toughest sides to beat in the group stage as will be at nearly full strength. Derbys 1sts vs Notts 2nds - we have a chance I'd say but not going to be easy.

  4. I would enjoy watching the 50 game with development and 2nd XI players along with some of the more established players. Whether we’ll get into to see them or not this season is another thing ( especially as none are at Trent Bridge)

  5. Any live cricket has to be good cricket. After all who would have thought when the 2019 season drifted to its dismal close, Just how long it would be before before we could even enter the ground, Little did we know of what the future held and what lay just a few months in the future.

  6. After the Hundred has taken 9 of our players, I think the 50 over team will be something like;
Hameed Slater Trego Compton Budinger(wk) Evison LPW Hutton Fletcher Chappell Barber with the likes of James, Pettman in reserve.
I would enjoy watching that team but the batting strength is very different to normal so may need an overseas player for some experience.

  7. I think more like
    1. Hameed 2. Slater 3. Trego 4. James 5. Budinger 6. Evison 7. Schadendorf (Wk) 8. Patterson-White 9. Fletcher 10. Chappell 11. Barber.
As for Captain, might go for James actually as the regular 2nds captain for years.
If we get to knockouts, could win - but it will be a challenge with that side.

    1. Haseeb Hameed has been named as the club's vice captain and will captain the side in the Royal London Cup.

  8. It certainly represents a opportunity for some to kick-on. That's the only positive I can see associated with The Hundred.

    1. Good point Dave G. The 100 ( which I won’t be attending) could in fact be a strange blessing in disguise.

  9. I am sorry that Abbas did not play for us and wish him well
    A fine bowler

  10. Wonder what made Abbas go to Hants? More money maybe or perhaps a lack of interest from Notts.

Whatever the reason it is a little puzzling that Notts as yet have not signed at least one overseas player, Perhaps they feel with the return of Hutton and the bowling looking well stocked there is no need for a bowler.

I wonder though are we strong enough batting wise.... Guess we will soon find out!

From various online articles, Notts signed the South African bowler Dane Patterson, over 12 months ago, first as a Kolpak, and then to become their overseas player, presumably on at least a 3 tear deal.I assume that this will be announced before the start of the season, unless the club have somehow managed to cancel the deal due to covid restrictions.

  11. I see that Mark Ealham's son George is on the playing staff at the Oval.

  12. Mark Ealham - what a cracking player! We need another one - a one day match winner!

  13. Was quite hoping we would sign Sam North by NorthEast on a permanent deal after his chances to play for us on loan last season were suddenly cut short due to Virat Kohli running world cricket. All the rumours we hear say he can be a difficult character to manage but batted really well in the first innings for us when batting conditions were extremely difficult on that snooker pitch of a wicket we prepared on day one. Perhaps PM never intended to sign him on permanent basis or perhaps Glamorgan just coughed up more for his services ? Assuming Hameed nails down one of the England opening batting Test spots for the foreseeable could now leave us short at the top of the order but we have a good young talent in the wings in General Montgomery.

  14. So , north east has gone south west; proves he’s a bit contrary,

    ReplyDelete
  15. Almost seems like Notts took a look at Northeast and decided maybe not.

There could be a number of reasons for not signing a player with a first class average approaching 40, Perhaps he wanted more cash than Notts were prepared to pay, Or maybe they felt he would not fit into the team ethic so important to Notts in recent times.

It could also be they simply felt that to sign another player who would then perhaps block the path of one of Notts own talented youngsters was not a path they wanted to follow.

Whatever the reason it should become clearer if Notts do sign someone else.

The question we need to ask ourselves though is do we really need to sign anybody else? Last season seems to suggest not, However injuries and possible international callups might quickly change that situation...

  16. Thanks, fair cop I missed that one. He was faster than average but not that accurate, would about do for Derbyshire
