Go Back To Go - Do Not Collect £200 - Notts Dumped Back in Division Two

TWO STEPS FORWARD, AND TWO STEPS BACK AGAIN

After some slight improvements in 2020 and then giant leaps in 2021 that had followed the nadir of the 2019 season, Notts find themselves "rewarded" with all that improvement being totally ignored as the the counties vote to revert to "as you were at the end of 2019" with the return of the two divisions system for the County Championship.

Why not go back to final positions of 1981 (sorry Durham), it's almost as valid as 2019, or 2011? We've moved on from 2019, so many players have left cricket or shifted counties and all have got older.

Remember the top teams of 2021

Why dock Somerset 8 points in 2021 when that competition counts for nothing it now appears?

Division Two 2022 will be comprised of: Durham, Derbyshire, Glamorgan, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Nottinghamshire, Sussex, Worcestershire.

  1. Total joke, cricket to be honest, doing my head in these days.

    1. They appear to be quite happy: retain their Div 1 status and have lost their points deduction for the doctored Taunton wicket in 2019 during the covid process.

    2. Dignified response by Notts https://www.trentbridge.co.uk/news/2021/october/county-championship-structure-for-2022-confirmed.html after County Chairs airbrush two years from the history books.

  3. Travesty of justice really. I thought the options would be same again as this year or two divisions based on 2021 positions. Have to look seriously at ECB why 2019 placings were even a valid voting option, any more than making two divisions by alphabetical order or by the average height of the fast bowlers! I hope this unfair move doesn't lead to the dismantling of our squad - it will depend on any contracts having relegation clauses -could even affect Dane Paterson?

  4. 2019 was the worst year in the club's history, not to suffer any consequences for this would have been good fortune on an unimaginable scale, at least the 2021 form should put Notts in a good position to have a good year in 2022 in div 2, where we should rightly be after 2019. 2020 and 2021 were always going to be makeshift years because of the pandemic, 2020 was a virtual write-off, 2021 was better than many could have hoped for, but still many games behind closed doors and a few cancelled or affected by cases/'pingdemic'. It's very easy for Notts fans to see things through Notts-coloured specs but most county fans see the sense of this decision, if only the ECB could start making more sensible decisions, scrapping the Hundred, prioritising 50 over cricket, more red ball cricket in June/July and August etc.....

  5. The decision to revert back to a two divisional structure, could possibly change again before the start of next season. If we suffer a covid ravaged winter, and early spring, it could well be back to the conference, behind locked doors.

One thing we have learned over the last 18 months or so, is that you can no longer take anything for granted.

Not sure that the Memmbers, on the whole, will be that bothered about this harsh decision. Unlike other sports does it really make too much difference overall. Possibly could miss out on a new signing but I back us to get promoted next year anyway to put us back where we rightfully belong. Plus, there's the local derbies to look forward to when we stuff Leicester and Direby. DO however feel gutted for the players. We were the true county champions last year and to go from that to being relegated must be a real deflator for them as a playing unit.

  7. One bonus for Notts fans for us being in Div 2
The four day games are favoured by most Members of the Club . Its " proper" cricket . Games at Derby and Leicester give us potentially 8 days of cricket which we would not get in Division 1

  8. We’re stuck with it ( div2)so it’s best to make the most of it .ive been to many festival and out grounds but never to hove or Sofia gardens so I could tick them off. I won’t call it a bucket list because I’ve been a ground hopper decades before the term existed.

Yes, Foxy. I've been to most grounds also but like you never managed Hove or Sophia Gardens either. I completely agree no matter how unfair it may be we're stuck it(like Mark points out, the Covid figures yesterday were alarmingly high so you never quite know these days) so better to just accept it. I don't see what other way you could do it which is the problem. It had to revert back to the last year of 2 div. cricket and we were so unbelievably poor deservedly got relegated. As our DoC has always been at pains to point out in cricket counties do have spells in Div2 at certain periods. Even the big clubs like Middlesex are down there and moneybags Surrey were down there recently. It happens in our sport. It will be good to see Paul Nixon and the new Direby coach crying into their Gatorade sports drink when they realise they've just played the REAL County Champions of last season. Joking apart, people who know me, know I quite regularly also go to both Disgraceful Road and Direby to watch them play in the red ball format and am looking forward to all the local counties being in the same division come April and let's just pray we don't have a return to locked stadiums as per the first three home matches of last season

  10. I agree with the above. I think we'll just have to move on and try to win the 2nd division. But it to me remains ludicrous that it wasn't done on 2021 placings - what has been done seems as ridiculous at if my employer evaluated me on my achievements in 2019 rather than in the past year - it's almost irrelevant it's so old.

  11. This winter is potentially going to be problematic I agree with covid.my good lady tells me they’ve already called off the fireworks on New Year’s Eve in London.Id like to see us play Middlesex in radlett so that I can ticket that one off and because I lived in St Albans for many years

  12. Surely with 80-90% Covid 19 vaccinated then we should not get alarming virus figures in 2022 . The great majority of the U K population have had one jab and over 50% had two - and its not yet November . I had my top up third jab last week .
If the jabs are effective as promised then we should have a complete 2022 season . Of course a new powerful variant may come along and spoil things.
A question to all Notts members !
Have you had your covid vaccination(s)?
A long term good friend of mine didnt and he is currently in a really dangerous state in the City hospital . This is after 8 weeks of intensive care . Make no mistake - this pandemic virus is very very dangerous to many many people.
    DONT HESITATE - GET JABBED
    IT MAKES SENSE

    1. Crickey, I remember you were one of the first on here to get jabbed, I’ll be down for my third as soon as I’m called.
Been back to forest this season , I’m surprised by how few are wearing masks, the number of mask wear seems to be decreasing each match.

I can see your point of view maxbarnish it does seem totally irrelevant to what happened last season, but I can't see any other way of deciding it. If you ignore what happened the last time the 2 divisions finished there would be no consequence for being relegated and let's face it we were absolutely horrendous in red ball cricket at that time and quite deserved to get dumped into Div2. We were quite possibly the worst 4 day side in the country. It would certainly seem fairer if the conference system stayed for this year and everyone knew what happens to them at the start so couldn't have any complaints as everyone would have strarted on an even keel that way. Still can't quite believe that Warwickshire were deemed the County Champions and then won the BWT final when they really should never have even qualified for it finishing outside the top2 in reality.Only cricket surely would do this.

  14. Whats done is done .
    You cannot change the past.
But its simply amazing that Notts do not have any Silverware in their trophy cabinet from the season just gone.
Upon reflection the sequence of events that denied Notts any competition victory will probably never be repeated .
Its simply the one that got away
    Lesson learnt!?
Onward to 2022 with plenty of confidence and plenty to look forward to.
PS Don't forget to book your Christmas meal in the SIX RESTAURANT . By all accounts customers are pretty thin on the ground and running expenses are mounting up.
I predict pie , peas and chips being served there within 12 months.
