By Way of Comparison - Protocols for Durham Next Week

Durham v Essex: Match attendance information

  • More time before the game, not less
  • Sit in an area and seat of your choice
  • Members' indoor lounge open for use by members

Durham Cricket is delighted to welcome members and fans back to Emirates Riverside, for the first time in over a year, when Durham play Essex in the County Championship next week.

There will be a number of measures in place to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort when attending the game.

We have set out a Spectator Code of Conduct which will be continually updated and everyone should read this before they attend any games at Emirates Riverside. You can read the current Code of Conduct here

Gates will open at the earlier time of 9.30am and the game will start at 11am. Upon arrival members and members guest passes will be scanned at the gate. If you have purchased tickets for the day all ticket holders will be asked to scan the QR codes at the gate or register your contact details with our gate staff. This will ensure we have the ability to track and trace everyone who attends on the day.

In order to speed up entry for individual match purchasers – if you have bought more than one ticket can you please contact our box office in advance of the game with the name and contact details of each individual attending with your tickets

Memberships and tickets for the game are still available online or by contacting our box office and tickets will be available to purchase at the gate but again anyone who purchases a ticket will have to provide contact details so please arrive early as the process will be slower than usual.

Please read all further instructions below ahead of attending the game:

Safety and Security Instructions

Do not attend the match if you are experiencing any of the COVID related symptoms.

It is likely a higher proportion of spectators may choose to drive to the ground in private vehicles, which will have an impact upon parking in the vicinity of the ground.

If traveling to the game on public transport please adhere to the measures in place and wear a mask.

The ground will open at 0930 each day.

Entry will be via Gate 2.

Ticket, safety and security checks will take place on entry to the ground. Membership and guest pass tickets will be scanned. Details will be taken or a QR code will need to be scanned for single match ticket holders and on the day purchasers. – In order to speed up entry for individual match purchasers – if you have bought more than one ticket you can contact our box office in advance of the game with the name and contact details of each individual attending with your tickets.

Entry will generally take longer due to Covid measures so please be patient and allow extra time to access the ground.

In order to assist in this process please avoid bringing bags if at all possible.

Signage has been introduced within the ground to ensure, as far as possible, all areas are one-way only and enable adequate social distancing. Ground markings will be in place indicating the ‘keep left’ and one-way routes through stands. Please follow signage and stewarding directions.

It is not necessary to wear face coverings when seated watching the match. It is recommended that when moving around and especially indoors and in all covered communal / covered areas including on entry and in queues, toilets etc. a face covering should be worn.

Please sit in any stand or block but ensure that at least 1 seat distance is kept between you and the next person not forming part of your bubble. Please note;
All seat rows will be used
The end seat of each row adjacent to the radial gangway will remain vacant.

Disabled spectators will be accommodated in the allocated areas across the lateral gangway running from Block 12 to Block 21. Access to this area is provided by the lift at Tower 1. There are also disabled viewing areas located in blocks 1 to 4 and also behind the north west terrace in front of Bannatynes.

The club reception will be closed. Score cards and Yearbooks are available from the club shop.

All normal toilet facilities will be available for use, please ensure social distancing is maintained when entering and exiting these areas.

Members lounge arrangements and other concessions

The members lounge is open to members and those with members guest passes.

Entry will be via Tower 3 as normal but exit will be from Tower 2 (a one-way system)

Food and beverage is available in the members lounge however this will be table service only.

Members can redeem their free food and drink offer in the lounge.

Please be aware that there is a reduced capacity in this space to adhere to social distancing rules. We ask that members are considerate of each other and use the lounge for refreshment and respite but do not occupy space for extended periods to allow others to enjoy the facility.

The members balcony will be available but social distancing measure will be in place so seating capacity is severely reduced.

The Sticky Wicket pub is open with standard procedure in place for indoor and outdoor drinking and dining.

Other concessions will be available around the ground including a coffee van, ice cream van and drinks van – please adhere to social distancing protocols when queuing for these.

  1. Some basic differences between the more draconian and pretty unfriendly Notts guidelines as opposed to the more inviting Dufham dictats.
Durham have food and drink outlets plus a place for Members to meet up under social distanced requests . Come on Notts - relax the harsh TB rules a bit and make the live cricket experience more appealing to the long suffering , patient Members.
Are Notts Members being penalised unnecessarily?

    1. Notts say all the right things to members but then treat them with total disregard. Actions speak louder than words, when all is said and done.

  2. Some clubs view Members as valued customers whilst others appear to view them as cash cows. Then there are the clubs that behave like members are an inconvenience. Would you not agree William...

  3. As far as Motts CCC are concerned, members are viewed as cash cows, and an inconvenience.

As Louis Armstrong used to sing, "It's a Wonderful World".

  4. Well today (22nd May) the weather forecast for Trent Bridge is circa 8C when the gates open at 10am - rising to a maximum of 12C later in the afternoon-on top of which there is a North Westerly breeze to bring the actual temperature down a degree or two . Very uncomfortable conditions for the faithful down there today . Probably be less than 1,000 Members attend today . Surely Notts can allocate an area within the ground where spectators can warm up a little? Why not open the Derek Randall suite ? Or the Larwood and Voce bar area where the match can be viewed ? I cannot see responsible Nott's Members abusing concessions like that. If Durham can do it then Notts can do it? With a 16,000 ground capacity and perhaps only 1,000 hardy souls watching the live-action then it seems ridiculous that Members cannot choose where to sit depending on the weather conditions . Come on Notts - look after your loyal Menbers- many of whom donated there hard earned fees to the Club last season. The situation today and tomorrow with regard to the harsh ( for May) weather conditions should mean a slight relaxation of the over rigid current ground rules and conditions to make the viewing experience more enjoyable.

  5. Every county has to make it's mind up how to approach this, within the law and have a public health and safety responsibility.

Not saying who is right and wrong, but as a disabled person with serious heath issues, non Covid and non contagious, I thought the club did a great job and were very kind and helpful to me.
