Leicester Sell Out

Opening T20 Fixtures Sold Out

13 May 2021

Leicestershire County Cricket Club announce that the opening three home T20 Vitality Blast fixtures of the 2021 campaign are sold out.

The fixtures are; Derbyshire Falcons (11 June), Durham Cricket (13 June) and Birmingham Bears (16 June) each hosted at the Uptonsteel County Ground. All tickets are SOLD OUT for each of the three fixtures, along with hospitality tickets and boxes.

The announcement comes after the Club have received confirmation of restrictions on capacity, that will be imposed as part of the phased return of spectators to live sporting events.

The Club can guarantee all supporters who purchased a T20 Blast Pass entry for each of the three fixtures.

There are a small number of fans who purchased individual match tickets who will be offered tickets to alternative fixtures, post June 21. The fans impacted will receive an email from Ticketmaster in the coming days with instructions as to how to transfer their tickets.

“Our capacity for the opening three T20 fixtures is lower than we originally anticipated. It is disappointing, but the safety of everyone at the club is paramount. We are continuing to adhere to the guidelines provided by both Government and the ECB.

“We now expect demand for the final four group fixtures to increase dramatically and therefore encourage supporters wishing to enjoy some T20 cricket this summer to buy their tickets online as soon as possible.”

  1. Public enthusiasm to see cricket across the country is good to see.

Hopefully we will soon see all restrictions lifted. Clearly a few jitters right now, which I admit, for so many reasons, is disturbing.

  2. Leicester now say their reduced Covid ground capacity is lower than they expected. Will the same happen at TB to matches played up to 21/6/2021?
It was generally assumed spectator limits would be 25% of max ground capacity - circa 4,000.
If this limit is reduced to say 3,000 then presumably that is not enough for all the Notts Members to see the opening two Blast matches ? So how will Members seats be allocated should the demand exceed supply - which seems likely. Anyone who PURCHASED a ticket for the Notts Blast 20 matches to be played at TB prior to 21st June presumably has very little chance of gaining admission?
The ground capacity after 21/6/2021 is open to prevailing virus spread and infection rates .
Fingers crossed that the awful Indian strain of virus can be contained and some sort of normality can be had.
A messy situation in prospect from all angles.
A potential headache for the Trent Bridge administrators- the unknown unknowns!!

  3. The sensible course of action would be to delay the the start of the Blast until after 21st June and scrap the Hundred until the time arrives when there's a need for a fourth "variant", I mean format - which is never.

There's no guarantee that bumbling Boris is even going to allow full capacities and lift social distancing on the 21st but with some spectators set at the limits starting tomorrow, things are marginally better but those numbers aren't sustainable and won't bring in the revenues needed by the counties.

On the commentary from Chelmsford yesterday, they said that they were allowing 200 members daily into the ground for their Championship game next week against Bears. So for most County Grounds we're probably talking hundreds rather than thousands - which is fairly disappointing and not what 18 counties need for the Blast "Golden Goose" incomes.

  4. Essex are limiting to this, because they say it would cost them £15,000 a day for any more. There not even letting anybody in for day 4. What they mean is they need to keep staff on furlough. They've looked after their membership no end. No mention of these restrictions when asking people to buy memberships. I'm afraid until the word furlough disappears from the English language, money grabbing domestic cricket will put spectators second.

There's more chance of being hit by a bus on your way to a cricket match, than being infected by this sodding virus at the cricket match.
