County Championship Conference System to Remain for Another Season (?)

Good news, 2019 rankings apparantly to be scrapped.
ReplyDeleteSurely a fairer system ? At least each of the 18 counties would know from the start. Had planned to attend the BWT on the Wednesday as I was certain we would finish in the top2. Still then planned to go on that day but was put off with the ridiculous price of a train fare from Nottm to St.Pancras before anything else. All in all, a pretty awful competition to attend for most spectators I would suggest. Very little time to plan your journey when the two finalists were only confirmed last Friday and with the match played midweek, yet again, in September with a 1030 start as a bonus. Is it any wonder the ground is almost as empty as back in the bad old days of behind closed doors encounters. I've huge respect for Bob Willis and what he achieved in his cricket career - who could ever forget that bowling spell in the classic Test at Headingley in 1981 Ashes series - and his work on Sky tv as a journalist who pulled no punches but also lavished praise when it was due. But, surely it one trophy too many to fit into an already congested schedule so everything considered I wouldn't be surprised if this competition has ran its course.
ReplyDeleteDear old bob’s status as a player and broadcaster will never be in doubt. A sad loss.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think we’ve seen the last of the BWT ,which I suppose was a bit of a stop gap in the times we found ourselves in. The schedule was wrong , The weathers turned and the season had fizzled out.
I won't bore everyone with my thoughts on the season save the obvious - that the first class season was immeasurably better than we could have hoped at the start and we are clearly a bit unlucky not to have finished even higher. Someone though must shout out our admiration, thanks and praise for Luke Fletcher finishing as the Championship's most valuable player in the country (and fourth most valuable over all competitions) and Samit being the 2020 MVP. Again.
