As it currently stands, before the widcard random nonsense; at the Nottinghamshire photoshoot on Wednesday only 7 players were snapped wearing the green uniform, that really had no business wearing one, unless availability rules do change during the "holiday month" of August.

In other words, this year the Hindered competition will deprive Nottinghamshire of 7 of their best players for the One Day Cup, and this in a World Cup year and with England's recent dire form in ODIs, the country's best players ought to be playing List A cricket in readiness (IMHO).

The 7 are: Jake Ball, Matt Carter, Joe Clarke, Ben Duckett, Alex Hales, Samit Patel and Olly Stone

Let's be positive, 7 is better that 11 /12, as has been the case in previous summers.

Matt Carter has signed a new one year contract with Notts. Does the lack of longevity suggest that Notts feel the future for Notts' one day squads lie elsewhere? Matt appears to have missed bus when it comes to first class cricket already.

But, Matt's unfazed nature has always been an asset for Notts, as is his height with his bowling and fielding, both traits proving a contrast to the hustle and bustle of the squat Samit.

Liam Patterson-White, Calvin Harrison and Fateh Singh, to name just three, are all there or thereabouts for selection for the T20 side in 2023, and in another year's time who knows who else will be knocking on the door as well.
