What a brilliant innings that must have been to watch !
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone will be talking about a great innings of will smeed for the Trent Rockets in a hundred years time , even though it’s called the 100! Foxy
ReplyDeleteGet your hair cut Harry!
ReplyDeleteIt's not worth it these days. As my old sadly depart Dad used to say, "they (the barbers) must charge search fees".
Delete75,NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteSome fascinating reading - thanks for posting them up .
Interesting to read of the pretty mundane jobs ex -NOTTS players took after their playing days were over . No one seemed to make much brass out of the game back then .
75 NOTOUT
ReplyDeleteSeems like Bomber was advocating BAZBALL style of cricket .?
If so , he was many years ahead of his time!
Who do we reckon was the last player to play both professional cricket and football?
ReplyDeleteWould it be Phil Neale, who played in that successful Worcestershire side of the late 1980s and also for Lincoln City and Scunthorpe Utd, amongst others.
Not sure how many times Ian”Beefy “Botham played centre half for Scunthorpe also, I believe it was, but don’t think it was too many?
Graham Gooch used to train with West Ham Utd, but that’s a very tenuous connection indeed.
I’m pretty sure Dennis Compton also played for Arsenal, without looking it up further.
Keith barker played 12 games for Rochdale in 2007
Deletedoes he still want sympathy??
DeleteDear Notts CCC and Notts County FC legend, and expert at at least 2 other sports, HBD !
ReplyDeleteCame across 1959 Wisden. In there, Alan Wheelhouse (or at least
"A Wheelhouse") respectable bowling figures for our Seconds in 1958. Probably one match, as did not bat.
I think he did a decent job for us in office.
Internet says he played First Class Cricket from then to 1961, but no stats.
Can you provide any please ?
There is this in the History section of the Trent Bridge "Pravda": https://www.trentbridge.co.uk/trentbridge/history/players/alan-wheelhouse.html
DeleteMany Thanks, will look that up.
