Notts Committee Hunt for New Chair, Successful!

So the music has stopped and the General Committee have picked a new Chair, someone not elected by the members to that committee, but appointed to the committe, sensibly by the Nominations Panel (but only in 2021) for their background in recreational cricket (after the county's recreational wing was brought under the same governance as the County Cricket Club that same year). Andy Hunt is the gentleman.

Pravda'a spin:

Andy Hunt has been elected chairman of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, following the conclusion of Jeff Moore’s two-year term and nine-year stint on the General Committee.

Hunt’s election comes a week after Chris Broad was confirmed as the club’s new president at the Annual General Meeting.

Having served as Chair of the Nottinghamshire Premier League for six years, Hunt joined the committee in 2021.

He will be supported in the role by Richard Stevenson, who has been reappointed as Vice Chair.

“It is a privilege to take on such a prestigious position at an historic club,” said Hunt.

“I’m determined to help protect and enhance Trent Bridge’s position as a venue of global repute, as well as the county club’s commitment to excellence in the professional and recreational game, with the assistance of my committee colleagues.

“Every term as chair brings its own challenges – that’s never been truer than in the past few years of post-pandemic recovery, while cost-of-living and inflationary pressures will pose their own tests in the months and years to come.

“After a lifetime in the game — progressing from my local club at Caythorpe to the Notts Premier League, the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board and finally the county club's General Committee — the task at hand as chair is one which engages the head and the heart.

“All of us connected to the club are merely custodians of something much bigger than us, so I’ll be driven by a desire to ensure Trent Bridge is left in good shape for the generations to come.”

Three elected positions were confirmed at the AGM, with Stephen Lehane and Dave Gunn joining the committee and Penny Huggard being re-elected.

Lehane’s previous involvement with the club included a stint as chair of the Nominations Panel, while Gunn spent almost 30 years in sales and sales management with IBM, and served as National Development Officer for The Croquet Association between 2017 and 2019.

Huggard has been a member of the committee since 2020, and has been portfolio lead for governance and a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.

Fraser Montgomery, who is currently Chief Financial Officer of LGH Hotels Nottingham, has been appointed to the committee by the Nominations Panel.

Chris Broad’s elevation to the presidency continues an association with the county which began almost four decades ago.

Broad’s nine summers in Nottinghamshire colours as an opening batter yielded almost 19,000 runs, and saw him claim two County Championship and three limited-overs titles.

The left-hander, who received 59 caps for England across red and white-ball formats, is now an ICC Match Referee.

He replaces Basher Hassan as president, after his three years in the position formally came to a close at the AGM.
