Been a great advert for the game of cricket . Stuart is a great loss to the game . Like his bowling pal Jimmy A he stayed fit for many many seasons. He didnt do a lot at Notts but what a great servant to the greater cause - England . Could always give the ball a mighty swipe and clear any boundary .
Next stop TMS commentary box ( or Sky)?

  2. On the rare occasions he played for Notts he had a pretty average record and the team's results suffered as a consequence, however whether you like the bloke or not (I pretty much couldn't stand him) you can't argue that he's been an excellent bowler for England especially in home Ashes Tests and they'll find it difficult to replace him.

  3. Yes, a great servant for England, but short of excellent for Notts. With his ability, disappointing.
Our last Championship, in regard to fast bowling due to Patto Snr, Andre and Sid, not him.

Maybe, don't like players coasting for Notts.
    Re Ashes
England 2 Australia 2, Australia Retain
If Ben Foakes had kept wicket for England, we would have won 4-0

First 2 Tests lost due to dropped catches, and "Bazball" stupid shots.

  5. Partly because he played so infrequently and could never be the lead bowler for sustained periods and partly because we can’t remember him taking 8-15 or four in five balls or Trent Bridge hat tricks for Notts as opposed to for England when thousands of us shouted ourselves hoarse he has never seemed to be a consistent match winner for us. But come on: 201 wickets at 23 and 46 balls per wicket would be figures we would be delighted to see from almost any bowler.

  6. With 53 games in 16 seasons, he's not what you'd call a great servant to the club. Broady used Notts as means to an ends.

  7. As a centrally contracted player for England for a number of years, his availability to play for Notts was always limited.
I don't consider that you can question his playing commitment when wearing a Notts shirt, but like his mate Anderson , his best performances were saved for the International arena.Although not in the league as Sir Richard Hadlee as a bowler, if Broad had played in a different era, with increased availability for county cricket, his stats may well have been more favourable.

When Broad was playing for NOTTS at TB there was always an air of expectation He had a presence on the field of play . Indirectly , he brought great credit to the Club . Years from now Broad and Anderson will be talked about as bowling legends in the mould of Trueman and Statham and Laker and Locke. It was a pity he didn’t “win” more matches for NOTTS by producing match winning performances . I always thought he was keen and trying hard and he had a lovely bowling action - always within himself .
No doubt about it — Stuart Broad will be greatly missed by cricket in general .Even the aggressive Australian public and Press took to him in the end . Everyone realised the huge effort he made in the game over so many years.

    Yes everyone Rich .
There was no lack of effort when Broady was on the field . I think that view is generally recognised .
