The hideous red shirts worn in the hideous massacre to Bears raised £1K in the John Pye auction.
Top dollar went to Luke Fletcher's unsullied shirt whilst the Primark bargain bin shirt was for No.8 Lyndon James' hardly worn shirt.

With Mr Moores intransigence with regards to the selection of a wicketkeeper, here's a spot check on the alternative choice left languishing in the 2s.
Devotees of Plumtree say that he's not standing out as someone special at that level, but would that make any difference to Mr Moores if he did?
The first only choice keeper's lack of runs currently is concerning, as has his promotion higher-up the order in recent Blast matches; which in each game has sparked a series of quick dismissals, an innings slump and ultimately a heavy defeat. Just a coincidence is it Mr Moores?

Pravda:
Off-spinner Matt Carter has left Nottinghamshire CCC by mutual agreement.
We would like to thank Matt for his nine years of service and wish him all the best for the future.
So has he been made a better offer by a rival county than the one he negotiated only in November?
Or has something else come between Matt Carter and his desire to play cricket for Nottinghamshire?
Excuses for a poor Blast campaign are ready-made this year for Mr Moores - inexperienced bowling unit being top of that list., having lost Carter, Patel, Mullaney and Ball all by design it seems, so what are the plans to fill those overs?
Today's Second XI match at Kibworth CC has already been abandoned.

County Cricket Members Group Communication
My name is Nick Evans and I’m emailing you as Notts members on behalf of Alan Higham who has been leading the campaign for County Cricket members to have a say in the future direction of the game.
You should have received a communication from the club this week outlining their current position on the private investment in the game. It is a bit vague but the whole national situation is a bit vague at present.

In the Trent Bridge Library for the current game.

About Mark Dennison (from Radio Nottingham)
Mark was born in Manchester but moved to the north east of England when he was four. His earliest memory of this was falling off his go-kart and cracking his head open on moving day....ouch!
He came to Nottingham in the late 1980s to study humanities (that's right - he couldn't decide what to do, so chose a mish-mash of subjects) at Nottingham Trent. It was here that a passion for radio was ignited.
Mark worked voluntarily for Nottingham Hospitals Radio. His big break came in the early 1990s, when some weekend work/holiday cover came up at TFM radio in the north east and later at Trent FM in Nottingham.
After graduating, Mark's radio career took him back to the north east, then to Yorkshire and back to Nottingham in 1996. He stayed at Trent FM until 2010, when he joined the BBC.
Mark loves to take the show out on the road; outside broadcasts include a week-long trip along the Trent and the canals by boat, exploring Nottinghamshire by caravan and a live show from Sarajevo to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Torvil and Dean’s Olympic triumph.
Mark is married to the legendary 'Mrs D', who works for the NHS. They have a son and a daughter, plus a Labrador called Oscar.
Mark's interests include cooking, playing squash and cycling – he’s taken part in several charity rides, including London to Paris, 100 miles in a day around London in 2015, and the Great Notts Bike Ride.
Also, Mark is a keen Forest fan - he attends most home games and does the stadium announcements on match days.

Sammy King (116*) another centurion before Steven Mullaney declared on 688/8, a narrow lead of 559 at half way.
Batting on allowed a Derbyshire golf course and dining establishment to come into play when Jack Morley bowled the James Hayes. If you know, you'll know it. What use the extra 19 runs will serve is unclear (since King's landmark).

You will have received the Email, probably, from Trent Bridge proclaiming the magnificent innings partnership between Joe Clarke and Will Young of 392* containing the two wagon-wheels (below).
Joe Clarke's 213* is his third century in as many matches and is the seventh player to achieve this feat for Nottinghamshire historically (though several have done it twice). Prior to Clarke's trio of consecutive tons, Dave Hussey did the same in 2004, the only other time this has been achieved this century.
Joe Clarke 2024*
Dave Hussey 2004
Clive Rice (4) 1981
Walter Keeton (4) 1949
Joe Hardstaff jnr (5) 1948
Joe Hardstaff jnr 1939
Walter Keeton (5) 1933
Dodge Whysall (4) 1924
Jimmy Iremonger (4) 1904
Jimmy Iremonger (4) 1901
You may like to note that historically that if you get three tons in three matches consecutively, there is a greater than 50% chance that you'll make it four in a row, so fingers crossed for Joe at Edgbaston to keep the sequence going.

ReplyDeleteWhat a legend Joe Hardstaff was . I went to High Pavement Gram School and Joe,s son was in my class in about 1956. Nice lad , tall with blond hair and told us stories about his Dads career. R
So pleased for Liam !
ReplyDeleteNoticed sir Toby didn't bowl.Is he injured now.
ReplyDeleteYes I hadn’t arrived at the time but Sir Toby of Pettman pulled up lame after bowling 2.1 overs in Derbyshire’s first innings
ReplyDeleteYes, agree Rich, you can only play whatever the opposition standard is - you’ve still got to do it, so very well bowled LPW on that 9 wicket haul - it shows the huge gulf in class between players in and around our first team in comparison to the second team of a small Div2 County in Derbyshire with regard to both LPW and Tumbling Major Tom yesterday - this is what they have to do when dropped, take it on the chin, swallow your pride, stick your chest out and produce match-winning performances for the stiffs and put pressure on those first eleven picks to keep performing
ReplyDeleteRather liked Colin, had some good chats with him. He also did Nottingham Tennis Open. His chairing of NCCC members' forums, probably a bit too fair for those in charge ?

Alex Baz Hales needs to play as many games as he possibly can, he can’t ease into this years Blast 💥 gaining momentum with his Lanka t20 commitments. Pity the 2s game at Kibworth tomorrow will be a washout for him
ReplyDeleteHe may say he knows his game inside out at this stage in his white ball career, but you’ve got be quite some player(and he is - or certainly was anyway) to come in from the cold 🥶 as it were, pick up a willow and start producing the goods without any match time in the middle albeit it is a t20 slogfest and Baz may find a few good hits is all he needs to set himself up nicely in his shortened stint with us this season ?
80 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteAlex has had his own personal agenda for quite a while now . He has called the shots and his multiple employers can only say yes .
But its quite a while since his match winning exploits for Notts ccc caused praise and excitement .
Time waits for no man -
Alex is getting a bit long in the tooth and will find it harder and harder to produce memorable innings.
Matt Carter leaves Notts by mutual agreement, Must have had a good offer from elsewhere given he had signed one year extension to his parent contract last summer.
ReplyDeleteOn his day could be a match winner, But evidently Notts feel they have sufficient cover Will we regret letting him go, Time will tell!
Been a naughty boy club decided to end his contract more spin excuse the pun
ReplyDeleteLet's see if he's removed by the Trent rockets as well all will become clear in time as usual
ReplyDeleteAlready has been - he was not retained by Trent Rockets for 2024
DeleteGood riddance. Should never have been given a new deal in the first place. But that's Notts for you.
ReplyDeleteCool under pressure, bowls at any stage of the innings and makes a positive impact more often than not, safe pair of hands the size of JCB buckets - why good riddance?
DeleteUnfit. Not a good look for inspiring kids or adults to get fit. Also bowling never improved in fact went backwards. Waste ot talent
DeleteSo you're saying that Matt was badly managed. Fitness: how many members of the backroom staff are employed to get and keep the playing staff fit? Coaching: how many coaches are employed by Trent Bridge dot com these days? It can't be the case that he showed-up for the first time this season on Wednesday and they discovered that he'd devolved into a couch potato - again poor management. Punish the player for managerial failings - that doesn't seem world class / centre for excellence to me.
DeleteMy thoughts too Dave , Having said that it does seem a strange departure with the Blast starting very soon, Makes you think something has gone off behind the scenes, Given that any team who wanted him for their side would surely have signed him during the close season. It's doubtful the TB Pravada will give us any answers, So I guess all we can do is speculate...
ReplyDeleteI understand both arguments - the good riddance one and the alternatives above.
ReplyDeleteIt is weird to offer a one year deal in the close season 2023, and then release him ahead of the “white ball season” in 2024.
Conversely, he didn’t give the impression of dedication or working on his game. Hard to judge of course from 80 yards away. Perhaps - and I think I’d agree - Notts feel that they’ve other options (LPW, Singh etc)
Jim G
Unless there's some cunning plan, beyond Calvin, LPW and Fateh, there isn't any etc therefore it is safe to assume that something outside of Notts have caused this splitting of the ways.
DeleteMatt Carter gave the impression that if he were to be anymore laidback, he'd have to be horizontal, nothing appeared to phase him - but I'd agree he didn't look to be working hard on his game and a 1 year T20 deal was hardly a vote of confidence, so plans for 2025 must have been brought forward. They wouldn't have acted before they had a solution surely. Jack Brook is available I hear.
When does Farhan Ahmed have his last GCSE exam, asking out of curiosity?
The club decided to terminate he's contract after breaking club rules? Not sure what he did, but good luck finding a new club more than likely will be Derbyshire
ReplyDeleteWhere'd it say he broke any rules? Press release was: Off-spinner Matt Carter has left Nottinghamshire CCC by mutual agreement.
DeleteWe would like to thank Matt for his nine years of service and wish him all the best for the future.
If hes fit to play he will walk into any of 10 or 12 county t20 teams no bover.
DeleteJust like Andy his brother, a lttle odd.
DeleteWish him and Andy well.
ReplyDelete80 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteDont think Notts will miss Matt Carter . Looked far too ponderous and heavy in the field . At least a stone overweight I would imagine . Promised a lot early on but never really delivered for Notts . Didnt make the best of hjmself or the talent he had .
Perhaps a new Club and new faces may spur him on to better fitness and performance?
Not miss Matt Carter, are you in communication with Peter, because it's not obvious (to me at least) what our bowling strategy will be now we've lost Samit, Carter, Mull and Ball (+Afridi) from last year? Has Conor McKerr still got an unused open return ticket or is Jack Brook still open to offers? We can only hope Stone and Dill stay fit!
DeletePeter Moores is a man out of his time, doesn't have clue anymore and knows even less when it comes to T20 cricket.
ReplyDeleteHarsh words, but true. Notts will be he next in a long list of failures for the coach.
So unless we bring a slow bowler in on loan very quickly we are now covering the spin options with Calvin, Fateh Singh who has played a handful of 50 over matches and LPW - please don’t mention General Monty’s spin in a t20 slogfest as doing a job -who is currently on loan at Northants and not only completely out of first team selection, he also has not featured in the t20 side for whatever reason. Absolutely awful preparation going into a new campaign when you also add Mullaney’s normally dependable overs are also missing. We must have planned for Carter to feature - or there was no point in giving him a new 1 year white ball contract ?
ReplyDeleteI suspect we will miss him - forget what he can’t do - he is a dependable slow bowler in this format of the game, so I also suspect ulterior motives in this announcement 📣 Pravda gave us ?
Again a lack of information on carter's
ReplyDeleteDeparture from notts in what one could describe as a very cold statement
Leaving much speculation' what ever the reason was will come out in time as usual
It will be down to individuals to decide if the punishment of having he's contract cancelled fits the so called crime
Matt Carter played as recently as last Saturday for Woodhall Spa in the Lincolnshire Premier League
ReplyDeleteA strong management team should have sorted Carter out. I suspect they gave up on him, considering the brief statement that the club made..
ReplyDeleteA wasted career, unless someone else takes a punt on him, and gets him on the straight and narrow.
There is certainly talent there, if it can be harnessed in the right direction
I totally agree

ReplyDeleteREF MATT CARTER
You can take a horse to water , but you cant make it drink .
A bit cryptic but many on here will understand .
Aren't the coaches paid to encourage the horses to consume liquid?
DeleteDane S's lack of first team opportunities bordering on the criminal. Yet again young talent going to waste.
ReplyDeleteMakes it worse when you see better glove work in some Notts prem games than moores.
ReplyDeleteSchadendorf won't get a look in now, as Moores's senior appointed Mullaney, who is a close friend of his son, to run the 2nd eleven. Lisa , Mick and Peter continue to prioritise their own interests above the welfare of the team. As stated above, bordering on criminal, but no one on the committee appears to have any desire to make the changes that the club so desperately need, especially as member and non member support, is clearly dwindling.
ReplyDeleteSchadendorf will be the next to leave following Luke Wood and Joey Evison sadly.
ReplyDeleteWell done Freddie 👍👍
ReplyDeleteAnd well done Dane 👍👍
ReplyDeleteHad to leave ,as had meal booked in Nottm, when ‘Terry’ McCann was on 120odd - brilliant effort by him and Dane S today
ReplyDeleteDue to work commitments couldn’t get down until the Blaze girls had left after training earlier so was absolutely gutted 😢 to miss having another opportunity to meet the lovely Marie Kelly - fortunately I am at Derby this coming Saturday as it’s the Charlotte Edwards Cup Final and The Blaze have stormed into Finals Day so will be able to catch up with her in a few days hopefully
you minder how you go chasing them women
DeleteSomeone had to bite eventually Fan Boy 🤣🤣
DeleteWell Done Freddie.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be enterprising if the innings from yesterday were to make an immediate impact on the first eleven selections for Sunday. Reward for the two players' hard work, incentive for all of those in the second eleven and the academy, and a wake-up call for those occupying first team teams places that don't contribute enough to warrant keeping their position in the side. Real competition for places!
ReplyDelete81 NOT OUT
ReplyDeleteAs we all know by now - certain players are nailed in for first team selection regardless of the form or suitability for the position they are selected for .
This will probably not change until one or two individuals involved in decision making move on ( or are moved on ?)
We were discussing this very issue down there today. At least ‘Terry’ McCann has signed a contract with us as I had heard reports he was being very closely linked with those naughty foxes 🦊 of Leicestershire
DeleteThink we must give an extra special mention to the super lovely Marie Kelly with her innings of 89 off just 63(9x4) for The Blaze against Central Sparks ⚡️ in Jasper Carrott County today.
I watched the latter part of her fabulous innings on my phone 📱 with the live stream whilst down there today
As 1, does indeed, play 4 we will be playing the Sparks ⚡️ again on Saturday in Finals Day in the first semi-final.
Perfect timing ⏱ for Marie to hit top class form again ahead of the big day and as one of our very own committee has been known to shout out “C’mon the Blaze” !!!
Enjoyed lady bay today. Anyone know where the toilets are this year???

ReplyDeleteLet’s hope Fletch stays fit . He could be asked to bowl quite a few extra overs.
With only Stone , Fletcher and James, available if fit, and Pennington on possible England duty, I don't see any other option but to sign someone else.
ReplyDeleteOnly Petman as a further option and can't see him being selected on a regular basis.
There's six weeks before the next Championship match, perhaps Brett Hutton will be fit by then and don't forget James Hayes will be looking to secure a new contact, so he's gonna be motivated as will Toby for the same reason.
DeleteHuge advert for a certain competition we don't like at all, on screen at entrance to Vic Centre, did not lighten my cricket mood. This and the pitch dark midday"sun".
ReplyDeleteWell done Freddie ! Alex, expletive deleted. Tried to work the link, commonality, between the 3 great threats to Test and County Cricket, Packer, South Africa rebel tours, Franchises. Quite simple really, dosh, dollars, lute, money. The big difference is the authorities fought the first 2, not so the latest one. In fact, they seem to be fighting against Test and County Cricket. I really believe without the domestic, representative red ball cricket, here and everywhere, Test Cricket cannot survive. You cannot have the fruit, without the tree.
